1 to 10 Facts 90 to 100 = Home run (score a run)

Players use number cards 1–10 (4 of each) from the Everything Math Deck and follow the basic rules. The pitcher draws 2 cards. The batter finds the product and uses the Hitting Table for 1-to-10 Facts on Game Master 34.

25 to 45 = Single (1 base)

72 to 81 = Triple (3 bases)

1 to 21 = Out (record an out)

48 to 70 = Double (2 bases) 10s ∗ 10s Game with 2 Dice 3,600 = Home run (score a run) 2,600 to 3,500 = Triple (3 bases)

600 to 1,500 = Single (1 base) 500 or less = Out (record an out)

1,600 to 2,500 = Double (2 bases) 1 to 12 Facts 80 to 144 = Home run (score a run)

50 to 64 = Double (2 bases) Three-Factors Game 180 to 216 = Home run (score a run) 125 to 150 = Triple (3 bases)

The rules are the same as for the basic game except that a 1 is worth 10, a 2 is worth 20, and so on. When a batter gives the correct product, players use the Hitting Table on Game Master 34.

60 to 90 = Single (1 base) 1 to 54 = Out (record an out)

96 to 120 = Double (2 bases) 10s ∗ 10s Game with 4 Dice 7,200 to 8,100 = Home run (score a run) 5,600 to 6,400 = Triple (3 bases)

Advanced Versions Use the Hitting Tables on Game Master 34 for any of these Advanced Versions. 1 to 10 Facts

Game Master 34 (p. 293) Name

1. Players or teams take turns being the “pitcher” and the “batter.” If students play on teams, members of the batting team take turns batting, and members of the pitching team take turns pitching. 2. A batter begins with a counter on home plate. The pitcher rolls the dice. 3. The batter multiplies the numbers rolled. The pitcher checks the answer with a calculator or a Multiplication/Division Facts Table. 4. If the answer is correct, the batter finds the product in the Hitting Table. If it is a hit, the batter moves all counters on the field the number of bases shown in the table. If a product is an out, no counters move forward. 5. A run is scored each time a counter crosses home plate. The batter tallies each run on the scoreboard. 6. An incorrect answer is a strike, and another pitch (dice roll) is thrown. Three strikes make an out. The batter tallies outs. 7. After each hit or out, the batter puts a counter on home plate. 8. After three outs, the batting team and pitching team switch roles. The inning ends when each player or team has made three outs. 9. The player or team with more runs at the end of three innings wins. If the score is tied, play continues into extra innings until one player or team wins.

B 1 to 12 Facts Skill Multiplication facts 1 through 12 Players use a 12-sided die. The pitcher rolls the die twice to get 2 factors. The batter multiplies the numbers rolled and uses the Hitting Table on Game Master 34.

NOTE: If 11 or 12 is rolled on the 12-sided die, players can pretend that a 10 was rolled.

2 to 12 Facts Skill Multiplication facts 2 through 12 Players use 4 dice and follow the basic rules. The pitcher rolls 4 dice. The batter separates them into 2 pairs, adds the numbers in each pair, and multiplies the sums. Players use the Hitting Table on Game Master 34. How players pair the numbers can determine the kind of hit they get or whether they get an out.

The pitcher rolls a 1, 2, 3, and 5. The batter could add pairs in different ways and multiply as follows: one way a second way a third way 1+2=3 3+5=8 3 * 8 = 24

1+3=4 2+5=7 4 * 7 = 28

1+5=6 2+3=5 6 * 5 = 30

Three-Factors Game Skill Multiplying three numbers from 1 through 6 Players use 3 dice. The pitcher rolls 3 dice. The batter multiplies the 3 numbers (factors) and uses the Hitting Table on Game Master 34. 10s * 10s Game with 4 Dice

(recommended for Grades 4 and 5)

Skill Multiplying two-digit numbers Players use 4 dice. The rules are the same as for the 2 to 12 Facts game with 2 exceptions: • Sums of 2 through 9 represent 20 through 90. • Sums of 10 through 12 represent themselves.

Player 1 rolls 1, 2, 3, and 5. He or she gets sums of 6 and 5 and multiples 60 * 50. Player 2 rolls 3, 4, 6, and 6. He or she gets sums of 7 and 12 and multiplies 70 * 12. • Players use the Hitting Table on Game Master 34.

Differentiation Options READINESS Students may need a review of multiplication strategies. It may be helpful to begin with the basic facts:

Players use the number cards 0, 1, 2, and 5 in one pile, and the number cards 0–6 in another pile. The pitcher draws a card from each pile, and the batter multiplies. They use the following Hitting Table: 25 to 30 = Home Run (score a run) 7 to 12 = Single (go to 1st base) 19 to 24 = Triple (go to 3rd base)

0 to 6 = Out (record an out)

13 to 18 = Double (go to 2nd base) ENRICHMENT

Challenge students to multiply larger multiples of 10:

Tell players that one die in the Three-Factors Game represents a number of tens. For example, if a pitcher rolls 6, 5, and 5, the batter multiplies 60 × 5 × 5. Adjust the Hitting Table by writing a zero at the end of each product: 10 to 540 is an out, 600 to 900 is a single, and so on.

ELL SUPPORT If students are unfamiliar with baseball, explain that strike, out, hit, single, double, triple, and home run have specific meanings in baseball. Using the game board and counters, explain how to score runs in a baseball game.
