BASKETBALL LEAGUE The University Intramural basketball league follows the current National Federation of State High School Associations Rule Book (high school rules) with some modifications, indicated below.
Policies & Dress Code Students must follow the policies and dress code established by University of Baltimore Campus Recreation & Wellness. Players 1. Teams must have a minimum of 3 players on the court at all times. 2. Teams must have a female on the court at all times to play with 5 players. 3. Substitutions will be handled by the scorer’s table. All substitutes will be asked to check in at the scorer’s table and will be motioned in by the official when they are permitted to enter the game. 4. Teams are allowed a maximum of 10 players on the roster. Game Length Games will consist of two 20 minute halves with a running clock with the following exceptions: 1. The clock will stop for time outs. 2. The clock will stop in the last minute of each half for every dead ball (whistle). a. The clock will not stop in the second half if a team is up by 15 points or more. 3. The officials may exercise discretion with respect to the clock for injuries and other longer stoppages of play. Time Outs Each team will have two time outs per half, each 1-minute in length. These time outs do not carry over and teams will be awarded an additional time per overtime period. Overtime 1. If teams are tied at the end of a game in the regular season, another jump ball will be administered and there will be a 3-minute overtime period. There is no limit to the amount of overtime periods. Mercy rule When a team is leading/losing by any of the following points at the given times, a game shall be ended. 20 points with two (2) minutes or less 30 points with five (5) minutes or less Fouls 1. A person will foul out of the game after he/she commits 5 personal fouls. 2. If a team loses a player due to disqualification and drops below the minimum number of players on the court (3), the game will result in a forfeit. 3. Teams will be in the bonus after 7 team fouls and will shoot “one-and-one” free throws for each foul. a. Teams will be in the double bonus after 10 fouls and will shoot two free throws. 3-Point Line Both males and females will use the white 3-point line (19’ 9”) Free Throws Players are not allowed in the lane until the ball has been released. Players outside of the three point line and the free throw shooter must wait until the ball hits the rim.
