BCYC Junior Sailing Program Summer Sailing Starfish ***Ages 5-7*** Eligibility: The Starfish class is offered to children 5 to 7 years of age. This is an introductory class which provides children with knowledge on sailing, knot tying, safety, and water-related activities. Weekly activities include: sailing a variety of different boats, swim lessons with our certified swimming instructor, arts and crafts, and much more. Requirements: Sailors must have a United States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.) approved life jacket fit for their use. Hours: Classes are held Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Sabot – Novice ***Ages 7-11*** Eligibility: The Novice class is an all-encompassing, fun-filled class for children 7-11 years of age in which participants will learn to skipper their own boat. This class is designed for first time sailors, as well as those not yet ready for the C3 Racing class. Curriculum covers the introduction of the Naples Sabot, boat parts, knots, and onthe-water sailing skills with a heavy focus on the fundamentals of sailing. The goal of this class is to teach kids how to learn, love and safely operate their Sabot. Requirements: Sailors must complete and pass a swim test, complete and pass a capsize test, own a fully rigged Naples Sabot and a United States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.) approved life jacket fit for their daily use. Hours: Classes are held Monday – Friday Morning Session runs from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. Afternoon Session runs from 1 to 4:30. Sabot- Beginning Racing (C2 & C3) ***Ages 8-13*** Eligibility: The Sabot C2 & C3 Program is available to children between 8-16 years of age. Sailors who have satisfactorily completed the Novice class will enter into the C3 class. This will be a skill-building class, teaching kids how to safely maneuver their boat in basic race-course situations. Sailors will compete in weekly regattas within the harbor, with opportunities to enter additional regattas on weekends. Sailors progress to the next level (C2) by winning their class events. Sailors typically spend 1-2 years at each level before moving up.

Parents may be asked to tow a trailer to travel regattas if their child participates. Hours: Classes are held Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Sabot- Advanced Racing (A, B & C1) ***Ages 9-17*** Eligibility: The Sabot A, B, & C1 Class is available to children between 9-17 years of age who have successfully completed the C3 and C2 levels. This program is dedicated to Sabot A, B & C1 sailors working towards a strong finish at Sabot Nationals. Advanced boat handling, race tactics, course strategy and the Racing Rules of Sailing will be covered extensively. The goal of this class is to produce winning results at the highest levels of youth sailing. Requirements: Sailors must complete and pass a swim test, complete and pass a capsize test, own a race-rigged Naples Sabot and a United States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.) approved life jacket fit for their daily use. Parents may be asked to tow a trailer to travel regattas if their child participates. Hours: Classes are held Monday – Friday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. CFJ Racing ***Ages 13-18*** Eligibility: The CFJ Racing Program is available to children between 13-18 years of age. The class introduces the Club Flying Junior to sailors new to the boat by covering proper rigging and de-rigging, boat parts, and boat handling. In addition, the program will foster sailors with prior experience in CFJs with heavy focus on race tactics, course strategy, and the Racing Rules of Sailing. This is a competitive travel team, and participants are expected to enter in suggested regattas throughout the summer. The goals of this class are to improve on-the-water racing skills and produce winning results. Sailors in this program are strongly encouraged to participate in both the Junior Olympic Festival and CFJ Nationals. Requirements: At least 3 years of sailing experience is required. If your teen is new to sailing and would like to get involved, please contact the Junior Sailing Director for an information meeting. Boat Charter Fee is included in tuition. Parents may be required to tow a trailer to travel regattas if their child participates. Hours: Classes are held Monday – Friday from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Parent Orientation Night th Tuesday, June 9 - 6:30 PM The Parent Orientation is designed to supplement this information guide and give parents a better understanding of the BCYC Summer Program. At this time, parent manuals, class schedules, parent of the day and committee assignments will be distributed. This meeting is mandatory; at least one parent is required to attend this orientation. Contact the Junior Sailing Director with any questions prior to the meeting. Junior Membership Junior Membership applications are available though the Junior Sailing Director or the BCYC Front Desk. Additional Fees & Notes  All Sabot, Laser, and CFJ storage fees are billed monthly by the BCYC Accounting Department  All sailors must be members of their respective class association (Sabot/CFJ/Laser)  Late Registration Fees may apply  Once Program begins fees are non-refundable, no exceptions or prorating of tuition. There will be no refunds for dismissal or termination.
