Partnering With Parsons Elementary By Amanda Elven |
[email protected] u ADM Employees: Matching Gifts u Young Adult Events u Congregational Meeting
For 12 years, First Christian Church has partnered with our neighbors at Parsons Elementary School to care for students and families in our community. With the goal of loving our neighbors, we approached the Parsons staff and asked simply, “How can we help?” The answer has been a beautiful partnership. Together as a church, we care for and encourage staff members, host Parsons events in our building, give students Christmas gifts, pray with the Parsons family, collaborate with the school to meet needs in our city, and care for Parsons students through our after-school program, Club 305. On Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall, our building is again filled with students and leaders working and playing hard at Club 305. Leaders develop caring relationships with students through which children become stronger and more confident academically, grow as better friends and neighbors, and experience the God who created them and loves them. Thank you, church, for loving our neighbors and joining together to care for students and families in our community to the glory of God.
WSOY Community Food Drive By Jonathan Grunden |
[email protected] BE STILL A three-week sermon series beginning November 4/5
The holidays are coming — soon! The rush and bustle will descend on you and your house in all joy, and with the accompanying holiday stress. In the weeks before Thanksgiving, our pastors will unveil a new sermon series: BE STILL. Learn how to enjoy the joyous holiday rush while experiencing a quiet life approach reflecting God’s presence in your daily life.
Our huge thanks to everyone who participated in the WSOY Community Food Drive, which was held October 6. As a church, we donated 2,764 pounds of food — a total that our fourth and fifthgrade students helped sort for delivery. Continued on next page u

Father & Child Campout By Jonathan Grunden |
[email protected] A good time was had by all at our first annual Father and Child Campout at Eagle Creek Group Campground near Shelbyville on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23. Our hope was to create a space for second through fifth-graders and their dads to spend quality time together while also connecting with other families in the church. Despite temperatures both days near 95 degrees, fathers and kids enjoyed fishing, hiking, archery, great food, devotions, and family games. The Campout drew 13 dads and 18 children, and we look forward to this event growing in the future. A big thank you to Brian Edwards, who volunteered a great deal of time to make this event a success.
