‘Be the best you can be’ 22nd September 2016 Dear Parents, Stackpole Residential 2017 for years 5 & 6 Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre provides an Eco-Centre and Education for Sustainable Development, fitting perfectly with the values and culture of our school. Every year we give the opportunity to our year 5 and 6 pupils to take part in a one week residential at this beautiful National Trust site, and every year they never fail us in providing a stimulating and exciting experience which is tailor made to our requirements. The accommodation is warm and friendly and the food is fantastic (according to pupils who stayed last year!). The centre is graded as a 4 star activity accommodation by the Wales Tourist Board. Activities vary every year, these include: mountain biking, coastal walking, canoeing, climbing, exploring rock pools and environmental work which might be clearing litter from the beach. The children also take part in ‘The John Muir Award’: John Muir was the ‘father’ of the World’s National Parks. The John Muir Trust has set up an award scheme – like the Duke of Edinburgh’s award, but with an environmental theme. The Award has four challenges: Discover a wild place Explore a wild place Conserve a wild place Share the experience Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre is approved Providers for the scheme, and build the entry award, the “Discovery Award”, into a week at Stackpole. The children complete a record book and after sharing the experience (usually back at school) are then entitled to an impressive certificate. Further information is available at www.jmt.org. Children who went last year have an opportunity to complete the next level of the award. The dates of the 2017 residential will be Monday 6th to Friday 10th February 2017. The cost of the accommodation, food, activities and transport will be £210.00. We have charged the minimum for transport as we will be using our own mini buses. This also gives the children
