BEAR’S PAW FABRICS’ HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE EXCHANGE OPEN TO ALL MACHINE BRANDS CHECK OUT MARTY’S CLASS IN OCTOBER FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGE
June 1, 2012 How Does the Exchange Work? After thumbing through the book, FRIENDSHIP TRIANGLES, by Laundry Basket Quilts, and falling in love with the half square triangle quilts, we decided to make the Tree of Life quilt. Then we read all about the Triangle Exchange suggested by Laundry Basket Quilts and the exchange idea came to life! Bear’s Paw has made its very own “Cinnamon Sticks” (which consist of one 6 ½” x 22” - LIGHT strip of fabric; and one 6 ½” x 22” - DARK strip of fabric; plus one sheet of Laundry Basket Quilt’s 2” Finished Half Square Triangle Paper). Each sheet makes 28 half square triangles! We have chosen an Autunm theme, and each Cinnamon Stick you purchase is $3.00. If you want to play with us, the minimum number of Cinnamon Sticks you are required to purchase will be 6 – giving you 168 half square triangles! In an effort to control the exchange color palette, fabric quality and continuity, we ask that you only include the official Cinnamon Sticks purchased at Bear’s Paw for the exchange. You can certainly make 2” finished half square triangles from your stash which can be added to the ones you received from us. Additional triangle paper is available for purchase – 25 sheets per pack – makes 700 – 2” finished half square triangles - $10.95. To help with consistency in stitching, we recommend the following: 1. Fabric is NOT PRE-WASHED. Your choice if you want to wash the darks in a container of hot sudsy
water to remove any potential dyes. 2. Spray fabrics with Best Press prior to layering with triangle paper and press with DRY iron. If necessary, press paper with DRY iron only. 3. Lay DARK fabric right side up. 4. Lay LIGHT fabric right side down. 5. Place paper RIGHT side up on top of LIGHT fabric only. 6. Pin each triangle in a hopscotch manner. 7. Use a neutral Aurifil thread (a 50 wt, 2 ply thread with hardly any lint). 8. Place a Schmetz 80/20 Sharp needle in your machine. 9. Adjust stitch length to 1.5 – 2mm. 10. Suggest using an open toe foot or ¼” foot for stitching. 11. Stitch ON THE DOTTED LINE of the triangle paper for continuous line stitching.
12. DO NOT REMOVE PAPER. 13. DO NOT IRON OPEN. 14. Cinnamon Sticks may be purchased up to (NEW DATE) Sunday, September 23, 2012. 15. Cinnamon Sticks must be returned by (NEW DATE) Sunday, September 30, 2012) to BEAR’S PAW. 16. Place CUT strips in a ziplock bag with your name, address, phone and e-mail. Make sure you write the number of purchased Cinnamon Sticks you sewed on the package. If you turn in 6 STITCHED Cinnamon Sticks, you will receive an assortment of 168 darks and lights. Bear’s Paw has the right to return any triangles not matching the above guidelines. If everyone follows the above rules, then all of the triangles should be the same and you will have an easy time making your project. Join us for a triangle pick-up party on (NEW DATE) Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, OR Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at 10am.
