15th September 2014 Hello and welcome back to what I am certain will be another enjoyable and successful year for everyone involved with Bede Burn Primary School. Many thanks for your support to the school and staff last year and for those of you who filled in the report reply slips with such kind and positive comments, they really were appreciated by the staff. Now for the notes and reminders… Pedestrian entrance Could we please remind you that the pedestrian entrance leads directly into the school yard. Could I please ask that after school you only use the path outside of the offices if you are coming to the school office. The path leads directly onto the car park and last week we had a couple of near misses with children running directly into the car park. Uniform Could you please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name. As winter approaches could you ensure that any hats, gloves, coats etc also have names in them. Gardeners Wanted Miss Smith has asked if any parents, grandparents, friends of the school, would like to volunteer their green fingers in order to maintain and develop the school garden. If you are interested please contact the office and arrange a meeting with Miss Smith. Gym Equipment and Adventure Trail The outside gym equipment is nearly ready, we are just organising some all-weather flooring. Could we remind parents not to let their children play on the gym equipment or the adventure trail before or after school. Refurbishment As you are no doubt aware, the school underwent something of a transformation over the summer. There are photographs and details on the new school website, needless to say we are all delighted with how amazing it looks! Website Please note that the new school website address is www.bedeburnprimary.co.uk Please have a look as it is being updated regularly. Please bear with me as I am teaching myself how to update and organise the site and it is proving to be slightly trickier than I thought! I know there are a few ‘issues’ but I am working hard to resolve them!

Parents Evenings For years 1-6 parents consultation meetings will take place week beginning 13th October. A letter and timetable will follow shortly. For Reception parents you will shortly be invited to an ‘open afternoon’ where you can work with your child and speak to Mrs Evans and Mrs Christie about how your child is settling in, again, expect a letter soon. Macmillan Coffee Afternoon Mrs Parkes is holding a coffee afternoon to raise funds for the Macmillan nurses on 26th September at 2pm. If you would like to donate any raffle prizes please leave them at the school office. There will be a cake stall on the day so we would appreciate any donations of cakes or biscuits (on the day only please!) Junk Mrs Franchi and Mrs Spencer would like to request any boxes, pots or containers that they could use to make models in the coming weeks. If you have any of these then please send them in with your child! Water bottles Water bottles are encouraged to be brought in across the school. Could we please remind you that only water should be in the bottles, no cordial or flavoured water. Sickness / diarrhoea Hopefully your child will avoid any such illness this year, however if they should, the School Nurse’s recommendation is that the child remains absent 48hours after the last episode. I realise that this can be frustrating if your child seems perfectly well but this will avoid the spread of the illness. Operation Christmas Child Once again we will be supporting the Samaritan’s Purse charity and sending shoe boxes to Belarus. This year I have challenged the children to provide 100 boxes for the charity, we have until half term! A leaflet has been sent out with this letter explaining further. If you’ve got this far, thank you for reading!
