5. Sew two Cream Splatter side border rectangles (2 ½" x 24 ½") RST on the short edges. Repeat to make two side borders, 2 ½" x 48 ½" (Dia. G). Dia. G +
Pin and sew three blocks together to make each row. Each row should measure 12 ½" x 36 ½". Tip: Pin a number to each row to keep the rows in order and oriented correctly; check to see the Multi Leaves and Birds blocks are oriented correctly (Dia. E).

FINISHING 7. Sew the Multi Leaves and Birds backing rectangles (23 ½" x 42" and 35 ½" x 42") RST to make one piece 42" x 58 ½". Press the seam open and the back smooth and flat. .
8. Layer the backing wrong side up, the batting, and the top right side up. Starting at the center, baste the layers together with safety pins or thread.
10. Remove selvages from the five Cream Splatter binding strips (2 ½" x 42") and sew the short ends RST end to end to make one continuous strip; press seams open. Press one short end ¼" to the wrong side. Fold in half lengthwise with wrong sides together; press. Leaving a 2" tail on the folded end, pin the cut edges of the folded binding even with the edge of the quilt top. Sew using a ¼" seam allowance and mitering the corners. Overlap ends, trim any excess and finish sewing the binding. Fold binding over to the back and hand stitch in place (Dia. K). Dia. K
9. Beginning in the middle, quilt the three layers together vertically and horizontally as shown in red in Diagram J. Then quilt an “X” between the horizontal and vertical lines, or quilt as desired. Stitch around the outside ¼" from the edge. Square up corners and edges, trimming excess backing and batting even with the quilt top.
