We are pleased to announce an opportunity for the Athens Academy community in adult education beginning with a watercolor class this fall.
Beginning Watercolor techniques Class will be held on Wed. afternoons from 4:30 to 7:00 in SA203. Class will begin on 14 September. This class will introduce the student to basic painting techniques for control of paints and variety of watercolor processes. Students will be introduced to color theory, color mixing, values studies, glazing, the watercolor wash and negative painting. This class is designed to provide the beginning and intermediate student essential skills for becoming a successful watercolorist. Space is limited to 10 students. Leigh is a regionally known watercolorist and teacher. She recently resigned from an eight year faculty positonin Fine Arts at Athens Academy to pursue her own work again. She holds a MS degree in biology from the University of Guam and began her art career 22 years ago in biological illustration. She has studied painting and design at the University of Hawaii, Montana State University and participated in Smithsonian Institute workshops. Her paintings have been exhibited in juried and private shows from Hawaii to Georgia, including 12 solo exhibits. Her works have received many awards throughout the Southeast. Leigh has illustrated 5 books for Menasha Ridge Press and one book, entitled, The Journeyman’s Path in 2002. She is an active member of the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation and a Signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society.
