Scripture Romans 12:1 … Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Isaiah 55:8-9 … “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
1. We are embarking on a new sermon series “Radical Generosity” – living a life of radical generosity to advance God’s Kingdom. What is so radical about generosity and how does generosity advance God’s kingdom? 2. Generally, what is your attitude toward life? 3. Our speaker, Jonathan Curry suggested that there are three ways to get a proper view on life. In your view, what does it mean to live an “open-handed” life? 4. The first way to get a proper view of gratitude is to give God your attention. Name three practical ways you can give God your attention daily. 5. The next way Curry suggested we adjust our gratitude meter is to give God our emotions. What do you know about emotions? How can emotions get in the way of our gratitude? 6. The third suggestion is to give God our devotion. Have you made the choice to devote yourself to God? What has God done for you?
Apply Each week of this series you will be challenged to take steps to make “Radical Generosity” a part of your living. Pray daily and prepare for how you will live a radically generous life. Prayer cards are available at the information tables. Pick one up and take it home to pray daily. Also, make a mid-week connection. If you are on social media look for a post Wednesday on the Community UM Church facebook page and list 3 things you are grateful for. If you are not, make a point to connect in a small group or with a few friends to talk about radically generous living using this connect guide and the challenge above.
Prayer God, this life is not my own, you bought me with a price… I can’t take this life with me when I die so, help me to stop guarding it like I can. Teach me Lord to give my time, my talent and my treasure freely. Amen.
