Behavioural Safety Refresher By now you’ve all done the course. Hopefully you enjoyed it and took something away from it. Maybe you have also used some of the training at home, hopefully at work too. But what is it really? Make sure you don’t get it confused with “Health and Safety”. Behavioural Safety is quite different. “Health and Safety” uses rules, regulations and laws to keep us safe and this goes a long way to making sure we all go home in one piece. Behavioural Safety is about how you think, what you believe, how you act even without knowing, and the effect your actions have on others . There is no legislation here, only guidance. It’s up to all of us to take responsibility, to challenge the way we think and what we believe. Everyone at Optimise is being given a key ring with this tool box talk to remind us to: Take 10 Remember ‘Alpha scan’ and the need to do a quick scan of your work area to identify potential hazards before you get stuck in to the job! Take Immediate Corrective Action It’s spotting a possible hazard and doing something about it. Sometimes this may mean raising the issue with your manager. Optimise wants to build a culture of safety that is administered and monitored by you. A culture we all take pride in and feel good about. Toolbox Talk No 035
