Dear JPIIA Community, This evening I ask for your willingness to participate in the formation of one of very own parents who is studying to be a deacon. Mr. Paul Schumacher is entering a portion of his schooling that he would like your help. Please read the below information about who Paul is as well as what his needs are for his next project. It is so important to build our faith community. Please email me if you are able to meet with Paul. In the coming week, I will personally be asking families to participate in Paul’s offer to meet with families to learn more about your faith and how Sacred Heart can offer you any support in your spiritual life. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.

“My name is Paul Schumacher. I am a Deacon Candidate in the third year of a four year Diaconate Formation Program as a member of Sacred Heart Parish. God willing, I will be ordained as a Deacon in September of 2018. I have been a member of Sacred Heart Parish for six years and have served in many different capacities including Parish Council. My son Henry is an eighth grader at John Paul II and has attended since he was in second grade. My wife Lisa is also the Development Director at John Paul II. One of the key roles of a Deacon is service. A Deacon is supposed to know the needs of the people and help to address those needs through the Church and the Church’s resources. As an element of our formation program, we are to involve ourselves in a three month ministry during this semester which runs from May through July.

May 14– Jeremiah T. May 15– Drew S. May 18– Rose B.

In discussing ideas for this ministry with Father Ricardo, we discussed how we would like to see the Parish better serve the needs of school families. As a first step in this process, we wanted to take some time to better understand what those needs are.

May 20– Carlos R-G.

Mission Statement John Paul II Academy is a Catholic school providing a faith-based education that embraces the teachings of the Gospel in order to develop the whole child. We exist in partnership with the parents, parishes and the community to meet the needs of each individual student. We will help each student develop life skills for cooperation with and involvement in the community based on respect for God, one’s self, and

society.

Thus I would like to sit down with you had have a short (approximately half an hour) conversation. The conversation will have three parts. First I would like to learn about you and your family. Secondly I will let you know about some things that our Parish has to offer. Lastly we will discuss any ways Sacred Heart can address any specific needs that you have. I look forward to meeting you and having this discussion with you. Once again thank you for getting involved and sharing part of your life with me. God bless you and your family!

Cardinal Classic Basketball As many may be aware we were unable to hold our annual Cardinal Classic basketball tournament this year due to a lack of volunteers. We would like to continue this long-standing tradition because it is something much of the John Paul II Academy/ Sacred Heart community often looks forward to and also serves as the Athletic Association's biggest fundraiser. In the past, the tournament was exclusive to 8th grade teams but we are open to changing the format. We are aiming for a date in January for the tournament. At this time, we are looking for someone to serve as the chair/coordinator of the tournament. Please contact Mr. Andersen at [email protected] if you are willing to serve as next year's chair. The sooner we can solidify a chair, the sooner we can pinpoint a date and the more likely we will be able to get teams in to make sure the tournament runs smoothly. Thank you!

Art Contest The Green Bay Packers are inviting student artists to submit artwork for the organization’s new Packers Student Art Contest, with the winners earning the opportunity for their art to be featured at Lambeau Field and a $5,000 donation for their school. The winning pieces will be displayed in the stadium’s club levels throughout the 2017 season, with new artwork being sourced through the contest annually to allow different student artists to share their talents with the community each year. The theme of this year’s contest is “Your Packers Gameday,” and asks students to share an artistic representation of what gameday means to them. For example, a piece could feature fans tailgating at Lambeau Field or wearing green and gold halfway around the world. It could illustrate the intensity of preparation or highlight the emotions and adrenaline of a close game. It could depict the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat. Artists are invited to tell the story of their Packers gameday experience through painting, drawings, prints, digital art, mixed media or collage. The deadline to submit artwork is May 22. Three grand prize winners also will receive a $5,000 donation to the winner’s school art program and an invitation for the winner and two guests to the Suite Holder Tasting and Artwork Unveiling on July 19, 2017, at Lambeau Field. Eligible artists include students in grades 6-8 or grades 9-12, or students attending a university or technical college at the time of submission, with one winner chosen from each category. The final artwork size must be 16 inches by 20 inches on canvas, paper, or other mixed media. Art pieces must weigh less than 30 pounds and be able to fit comfortably in a standard frame. For full contest rules and guidelines, or to submit an entry for the contest, please visit pckrs.com/artcontest.
