Christmas Greetings from BYGCC Seasons greetings to you all from Bells Yew Green Cricket Club. As Christmas approaches and our thoughts turn to families, the meaning of Christmas, food and laughter etc, we at BYGCC are no different. However, the committee is still working away in readiness for next season, and what a season it will be. I have heard from Chris Fox, our chairman who tells me that the ground levelling project is finally going ahead early next year so that we will be ready to enjoy the benefits for the start of the 2017 season. As is often the case with projects like this, the budgeted cost and the actual cost can sometimes be different and our project is no different! With the help of a number of generous members, these additional costs have been found in the short term to allow us to proceed but we will be kicking off a number of fundraising initiatives next year and onwards to help the club to continue to provide a growing vibrant club for our juniors to enjoy. If you are able to help in any way with this, please give either Chris or me a call in 2017. As I said earlier, we have not been idle since the end of last season and the coaches have been running a number of sessions on the run up to Christmas. Chris Fox has been taking nets at Uplands on Wednesday nights for the year 6,7 & 8’s and Monday nights at Bennetts for the yr 13’s. This will continue after Christmas so please contact Chris if you would like your child to be involved. Kamil has also been busy and reports that the boys have played three games now in the newly created 8 a side Indoor League at Skinners Kent Academy. The first game was against Cranbrook for an easy win and a dramatic last ball 6 to win against Otford and one agonising loss to Bidborough, who won with a no ball second to last ball of the game! In addition, Kamil and Danny will be running Saturday afternoon nets from early Feb for 6 weeks, at Uplands. Starting at 4 or 4.30 (TBC) for an hour and a half. This will be for the U10-U12’s (yrs 5,6,7). Please contact Kamil for more information. This will introduce the younger players to hardball cricket and at this late stage provide some inspiration for Santa (gloves, pads, helmets etc). Well that is about it for 2016. It has been a great year again for BYGCC and with the groundworks starting and the coaches preparing our kids, I fully expect another exceptional year to come. I wish you a safe and happy Christmas and thank you for you continued support. Best Wishes Simon Ellis
