Bideford Amateur Rowing Club (BARC) is based on Bideford’s Quay beside the River Torridge. We have active squads for men, women, veterans, novices and juniors. The Club is also represented in Euchre, Snooker and Skittles Leagues.
History & Current Profile The Bideford Amateur Rowing Club (BARC) better known as ‘Bideford Reds’ was founded in 1882 and has been on its present Manor Wharf site on the main Quay since 1939. Bideford Reds have always been very much at the forefront of West of England rowing and have secured well over 50 local championships as well as three South Coast Championships. Our Junior section annually represent the west of England competing at the National Inter-Regional Championships in Nottingham. Rowing Clubs in the South West have a long tradition of involvement in the community and Bideford Reds are no exception. The reds are part of the regatta committee that puts together Bideford Regatta and the town’s carnival every year. The club prides itself on creating a sense of belonging and a family friendly and supportive environment in which to train, row, compete and socialise within the community in which it is located. We have a good fleet of boats of all sizes, a roomful of indoor rowing machines and a small weights room. As well as a bar to hold regular social events.
