Big Ten Quad Duals u The No. 18 University of Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team defeated Illinois (272-75) and Purdue (233136) last weekend at the Big Ten Quad Duals. u UW moved to 8-1 on the season in dual meets and remains undefeated against Big Ten opponents. u Wisconsin was scheduled to compete against No. 8 Minnesota, but due to travel issues, the dual against the Gophers was an exhibition meet.

Friday Highlights u Wisconsin got off to a great start as the team comprised of Hannah McClurg (San Diego, Calif.), Jackie Vavrek (Chicago, Ill.), Christine Zweigers (Somerset West, South Africa) and Maggie Meyer (North Oaks, Minn.) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in an NCAA “B” time of 1:32.68. u Sophomore Candice Peak (Andover, Mass.) won the 200 IM in a season-best time of 2:04.05 and later took second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.37), good for another “B” time.

u Sophomore Gabby Maddalena (The Woodlands, Texas) won the 500-yard freestyle in a “B” time of 4:52.04. u Junior Jen Illescas (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.33) which met a “B” time standard and also took third place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.05).

Freshman Maggie Meyer won three individual events and met five NCAA “B”time standards at the Big Ten Quad Duals last weekend.

u Sophomore Rosie Morahan (London, England) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.77) and took second in the 200 IM (2:07.50). u Meyer took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a new season-best time of 1:59.17, which earned her another “B” time in this event. u UW swept the 100-yard freestyle as McClurg placed first (51.23), Vavrek took second (51.83) and Zweigers claimed third (52.26). u The Badgers claimed first and second place in the final swimming event on Friday, the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Meyer, Morahan, Katie Imhoff-Smith (Waukesha, Wis.) and McClurg took first with their “B” time of 3:42.55 while Peak, Libby Brooks(Oregon City, Ore.), Jenny

Wisconsin remains undefeated (4-0) in Big Ten Conference duals.

u Other top five finishes for Wisconsin included Kasey Carpenter’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) fourth place finish in the 200 back (2:02.33) and Imhoff-Smith taking second in the 200 fly (2:02.99). u In diving, Emily Cheffins (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) was UW’s top scorer on the one-meter spring board with her fourth place finish (251.55 points). Ciara Rinaudo (Pheonix, Ariz.) claimed sixth (235.10) and Jenny Hawkins (Eden Prairie) took seventh (227.90). On the three-meter board, Hawkins was UW’s top finisher as she took fifth place with 245.15 points.

Saturday Highlights u Day two of the Duals began with the 200-yard medley relay. The Wisconsin team of Sara Goff (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Brooks, Imhoff-Smith and Kelsey Gergen (Hastings, Minn.) finished third with a time of 1:46.12. u In the 1000-yard freestyle, Maddalena captured second place with a time of 9:55.81, setting a season-high by better than four seconds. Junior Katie Twitchell (Brookfield, Wis.) placed seventh in the event with a time of 10:28.80, establishing a new personal-best in the process. u Vavrek took home her second victory on the weekend when she placed first in the 50-yard freestyle. Vavrek finished in a time of 23.08 for an NCAA “B” time. Wisconsin did well in the event, taking four of the top six spots. McClurg took third with a time of 23.79, Zwiegers was fourth with a time of 23.83 and Gergen was sixth with at time of 23.98. u Meyer earned her third victory of the weekend when she won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 55.25, earning an NCAA “B” time. Meyer’s time was a personal best in the event and it was also the best time on the team this season. u The Badgers grabbed the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Zwiegers picked up her second win of the weekend, as she came in at a time of 55.88. Imhoff-Smith was the next to finish as she ended with a time of 56.47.

u Illescas took home first place in the 200-yard freestyle. She finished the event, her second win of the weekend, in a time of 1:50.61. u Wisconsin claimed the fourth through sixth spots in the 400-yard IM. Maddalena was fourth (4:28.59), while Peak was fifth (4:28.97) and Brooks was sixth (4:30.89). u Like in the 100-yard butterfly, the Badgers took the top two spots in the 400yard freestyle relay. The team of Meyer, McClurg, Vavrek and Illescas earned top honors, finishing with a NCAA “B” time of 3:24.00, while the quartet of Morahan, Zwiegers, Gergen and senior Kristy Brager (Green Bay, Wis.) came in second with a time of 3:28.01. u The last event of the weekend came on the platform diving board. Cheffins posted the highest UW score at 236.65.
