Wednesday 3 November 2016

Dear Parents On Monday 28th November 2016 children in Class 5PO will be visiting Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. During this visit the children will explore the galleries including a new gallery which uncovers the fascinating story of the Staffordshire Hoard. Children will be provided with the opportunity to learn more about this incredible treasure, from its Anglo-Saxon warrior history, to the ongoing conservation techniques used to unlock its secrets today. Hundreds of pieces from the hoard are on show, along with hands-on displays exploring how these intriguing items were used, before they were buried some 1400 years ago. Included in this visit is a ‘Glittering Gold’ workshop in which children will dig up and investigate objects whilst learning about how the hoard was found. They will use real conservation techniques to clean and reconstruct objects and conduct scientific experiments. Mini buses will depart from school at 9.20am and will return to school before the end of the school day. Children should wear their school uniform and every child will need to bring a packed lunch. If you pay for your child’s school dinners then a packed lunch is available from the school kitchen. Please indicate this on the slip below. A voluntary contribution of £3.50 is required for the trip to take place. Kind Regards Mrs O’Donnell
