Dear Blue Wave Supporter: The Blue Wave Booster Club’s (BWBC) mission is to encourage safe parcipaon in Athlec, Fitness, and Spirit acvies for all members of the Darien High School community. The BWBC is currently undertaking a $150,000 fundraising effort to update and improve the DHS Fitness Center so that all sports teams, Phys Ed classes, and individual fitness fanacs can take full advantage of all that a high quality fitness center has to offer. The refurbished Fitness Center will incorporate an addional 1529 square feet of currently underulized space by adding a separate Team and Power room. Currently, all DHS students are required to parcipate in Fitness Center physical educaon classes. Many also parcipate as members of varsity and junior varsity teams both in season and off season to increase strength and compeveness while reducing injuries. Much of the equipment in the current Fitness Center was transferred from the old high school, or was donated by health clubs that were updang their own fitness facilies. While they have served us well, almost every piece of aerobic and cybex equipment needs to be replaced. Our plan is to connue to use the exisng free weights, racks, and plaorms in a new “Power and Team Room.” This new room will free up space for addional aerobic and strength equipment in the Fitness Center and increase the overall square footage of the facility, allowing more students to comfortably and safely work out during and aer school. The Blue Wave Booster Club is excited to spearhead the efforts to move our fitness needs forward and create a space that is user-friendly, safe, and designed for the needs of all of our students at Darien High School. With approximately 80% of the students at the high school parcipang in an extracurricular sport and 100% of the students required to parcipate in physical educaon class in the Fitness Center, the expanded facility will be a benefit to EVERY current and future DHS student. We know that this project cannot be completed without the generous support of members of our community. Therefore, we ask that you consider a tax-deducble donaon to the Blue Wave Booster Club designated for the Fitness Center enhancement. No donaon is too great or too small when the improvement of the health and wellness of our student body is at stake. Please help us help all of our students “RIDE THE FITNESS WAVE!” Your generous tax-deducble donaon to the campaign to refurbish the Fitness Center will have a posive impact on the healthy lives of our children for years to come.

People who know and agree! “The Fitness Center project is the single most dramac upgrade in regards to a posive impact for both Physical Educaon and Athlecs that can be made at Darien High School. For the first me we will have state of the art resistance training equipment, enough computerized cardiovascular equipment for an enre PE class and adequate space for funconal and core training. The addion of a team training room will relieve overcrowding in our current fitness center, providing a separate and adequate space dedicated to power training while allowing the Fitness Center to be more accessible for individual, specific training rounes.” Nick DeMaio, Trainer, Physical Educaon Teacher, Varsity Soball Coach, Fitness Center Consultant

“The fitness center is the cornerstone of the physical educaon and athlec departments. An upgrade to this facility and the addion of a team room will greatly enhance both programs.” Laurie LaRusso, Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Coach, Physical Educaon Teacher

“The refurbishing and addion of square footage to the Fitness Center will provide a huge li to the DHS physical educaon program and athlec programs. It will provide students with access to an array of exercise, training, and wellness programs in a comfortable, funconal, and most importantly, safe environment.” Mike Sullivan, Athlec Director, DHS
