Meeting conducted online through GoToWebinar

Meeting called to order by Governor John Kyle at 4:10 PM, Sunday, January 29, 2012 Attendees: John Kyle, Debbie King, Bernard Knott, Adele Knott, Connie Baker, David Lynch, Daniel Savage, Joe Altobello, Ray Richardson, Rhonda Vrell, Bill May, Ashleigh Glass, Gary Dickens, Kevin Dean, Sherry Charles, Shirley Keen, Stacy Catrow David Lynch moved to accept the November 19, 2011 Board minutes as presented, Sherry Charles 2nd – motion passed by voice vote David Lynch stated that we had received $14,058 from KI for District dues. During the discussion it was recommended that we take down the old District website. After the CKI Governor Ashleigh talked to her board and Greg Sheperd, it was determined that we could do so after February 15th. Ashleigh told us that they were going to move their website to a new location. Sherry Charles moved that the Treasurers report be approved as presented and ??? 2nd – motion passed by voice vote. Under Old Business: It was decided that we need to remove Article 14 Section 2 of our bylaws to bring them into compliance with Kiwanis International’s expectations. It was moved by Kevin Dean and 2nd by Bernard Knott to do so but to retain the New Club dues exemption in our Policy. Motion passed by voice vote. Under New Business: We discussed Policy 12 Section 18 which deals with the Key club and Circle K scholarships. This past year the District qualified for 10 matching scholarships. This will require each SLP to come up with a matching $2,500, either through their own money or through the WV Kiwanis Foundation. After some discussion it was moved by Kevin Dean and 2nd by Daniel Savage to amend the Policy to state that if either SLP could not come up with the matching funds the other SLP had the right of First Refusal to either use the fund or reject it. This would allow us to retain the Ki funds rather than having to send them back to KI. The motion passed by voice vote. There was also some discussion about the fact that the WV KI Foundation board only meets in March and August, so a decision on whether an SLP has sufficient funds will revolve around funding from the WV Ki Foundation and thus a decision needs to be made in March. More discussion will follow so that we can take a closer look at future funding ideas. Rhonda Vrell reported that at the recently completed Council in New Orleans several items came before the members. One was changing Club Bylaws to more nearly reflect an international organization. Another was how the roles of Districts are changing and what that means for the organization. There is a move to create a Strategic Growth

Plan. The recent SLP weekend brought forth that there is a need for more support from Kiwanis clubs for the SLPs. Daniel savage reported that the Big Ugly key Club is up and running. Sherry Charles reported that the Salem Doddridge Club is doing Okay. The Suncrest Club is adding members. Bridgeport is to add two members but will be losing one. There is a decided effort to build a club at Weston. Debbie King reported that the Bluefield Club may be in danger – meeting just once a month and only six good members. However, they do have a Key Club at Bluefield High. Big news was a possible satellite club at Bradshaw. Riverview High has a new Key Club faculty advisor, which should help get that club back up and running. Ray Richardson reported on the Eliminate Project. He has three divisional chairs – Ray for divisions 1-4, Adele Knott for divisions 5-6, and Bill McDonald for 7-10. Plans are in place for a program at Midyear. We have syringes for Midyear and for the Key Club DCON. Ray will have five Zeller Medallions for Midyear. We talked about the KI International Convention in New Orleans. Kevin Dean talked about the District dinner planned for Pat O’s on the River on Thursday June 28. The cost will be $100 per person. There are currently three forum programs planned for Midyear with one more to be determined. The cost for rooms was negotiated to a lower rate. Registration will start on Friday, March 9, 2012. There will be a Board meeting on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Midyear and another online meeting on a date to be determined in May. Meeting adjourned at 5:35 PM by Governor John Kyle.
