Looking for Your Purpose? Here’s What You Should Know

You need to know that finding your purpose or the real meaning in your life and the life you were meant to live is not an easy assignment. This is because it’s not an overnight process, purposes change over time, and most importantly, self-awareness plays a major role in finding out what you are best suited for that will bring you purposeful fulfillment in your life. The quality of your life depends to a large extent on the quality of your emotional and mental mind-set, which is the starting point in the discovery process. The fastest way to discovering your life’s meaning and direction is through the art of self-examination. It all starts with you. Connecting with your inner self sets the stage for realizing what will fulfill you. Knowing yourself and your capabilities starts the process in making decisions about your life. When you change the way you feel and think about your surroundings, and the way you react to people and situations, your actions and behavior change accordingly. Your personal characteristics and traits drive your behavior patterns (aggressive, impulsive, passive etc.) that play a role in reaching your true purpose. In the quest for self-discovery, there will be challenges that will block your progress. It’s easy to lose your focus with the distractions and relationships in your life, and after a while, what you thought you wanted in life may no longer suit you. Searching then for your purpose first is like putting the cart before the horse because your behavior and experiences are contributing factors in lifechanging decisions. There are actually two parts that form a purpose. The first one is the inner purpose (emotional) or the state of becoming true to yourself. The second one is the outer purpose (logical) that reveals what your self urges you to become to gain the most from living (profession/other). Without developing your inner

purpose first, it’s much harder for you to expedite the process of reaching your goals. Until you do, you will be working backwards. There are two methods used to discover your purpose; traditional or scientific. The traditional approach focuses primarily on symptom reduction, what works and what does not. Below is the type of questions that are generally asked of you in order to help evaluate your interests using this system. • Why am I here? • What am I good at? • What am I passionate about? • What are my values? • What are my talents? • What has made me proud of myself? • What makes me feel really alive and energized? • What one change could make me happier? • What can I contribute to the world? • What’s my comfort level: employee or entrepreneur? In contrast to the traditional approach, the scientific method is based on using mathematical algorithms developed to identify and decode all of the components found in your blueprint. Seeing the big picture of how you are wired from the inside out before you start your journey will move you through the process of discovery much faster. Life happens. It’s easy to get off course on your journey. Adjustments often have to be made. There are influencers and limitations that affect your emotions and your decisions. A positive purpose in life is to strive for fulfillment in whatever proves important to you in your world—be it family, career, service or faith. When you are on purpose with both your external world (outer purpose - logical) and your inner world (inner purpose - emotional), there is no resistance; therefore, it’s more likely that you will find the right purpose for the stage of life that you are in.
