Recycling Information 2013 HARRINGTON PARK RECYCLING CENTER

Harrington Park’s Recycling Center is located at Penn/Ward Way (off of Schraalenburgh Road) Hours: Monday to Saturday- Reopens Monday at 8am The recycling center is open in addition to curbside recycling pick up. Accepted items: Cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper/junk mail, phone books, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, white/green/brown glass, plastic, used motor oil *White metal items will be collected curbside  Please call DPW at 201- 768-0944 to schedule a pick up Items not accepted: Household batteries, propane tanks (empty or filled), *hazardous materials, fluorescent bulbs, grass clippings and construction & demolition materials. * See HAZARDOUS WASTE or ELECTRONIC WASTE sections to learn how to recycle these items Please Recycle Material According to the Labeled Containers

CURBSIDE RECYCLING Advanced Waste is our recycling contractor. The recycling schedule for cardboard/paper and cans/plastic/glass is available on the homepage of the Harrington Park Borough website. It can be accessed at http://harringtonparknj.gov/index.html. See CURBSIDE ITEMS section for what to put out on curbside pickup days. For more information regarding curbside recycling contact the contractor at 1-800-595-7660. Recycled materials must be placed curbside by 6:30am on the morning of pick up. For more information about which items may be recycled see below section: RECYCLING SPECIFICS- What items can I recycle?

CURBSIDE ITEMS CANS/PLASTIC/GLASS Collection DaysAluminum cans, tin cans, steel cans, glass jars, bottles and plastic may be combined in a reusable container at curbside. Commingled containers should be loose in a recycling can or in a WHITE plastic bag. * Plastic bags may be included with your comingled recyclables. Please place all plastic bags inside a single bag that is tied in order to keep them from blowing away. These plastic bags can also be recycled at your local grocery store. * Friendly Reminder- Cans, plastic and glass that previously contained food should be rinsed before being placed with recycling. This helps to reduce the number of flies and rodents that occupy your recycling pile. CARDBOARD/PAPER Collection DaysNewspapers, junk mail/missed paper, corrugated cardboard *Corrugated Cardboard- Must be flattened, tied and bundled or flattened and placed in a single container. It can be combined with newspaper and junk mail. * Empty pizza boxes should be recycled with cardboard. Please remember to take out leftover pizza, when leaving pizza boxes.

RECYCLING SPECIFICS- What items can I recycle?

CARDBOARD/PAPER- telephone books, magazines, catalogues, junk mail, papers, cardboard food containers (paper board), books, food cartons *paper towels should not be recycled

PLASTIC- containers which have a number on the bottom, water bottles, drink bottles, shampoo & conditioner bottles, detergent bottles, yogurt and margarine tubs, soft beverage rings, plastic laundry baskets, plastic dish drains, plastic shelving, plastic pet carriers, plastic straws CANS- aluminum cans, aluminum food containers and trays, tin cans, aluminum foil GLASS- any food or beverage containers

*no mirrors *bottle caps should not be placed with your recycling. They can be recycled by mailing them to: Caps Can Do,437 Holtzman Avenue,Columbus, Ohio, 43205. For more information email [email protected]

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE The Harrington Park Recycling Center does not accept any Hazardous Waste. The County sponsors three Household Hazardous Waste drop off days each year (usually April, June and October). Acceptable materials: pesticides, herbicides, solvents, thinners, corrosives, cleaners, pool chemicals, aerosol cans, old gasoline, mixed oil, car batteries, oil-based paint, antifreeze, florescent light bulbs and used motor oil. ELECTRONIC WASTE The BCUA operates a computer and electronic waste recycling depot exclusively for Bergen County residents. The computer and electronic waste depot is open 9:00am12:00pm Monday through Friday. Please call 201-807-5825 to make an appointment or get further information.
