FEAST CITY GUIDE: BOSTON
ON THE RISE BOSTON’S FOOD SCENE KEEPS GETTING BETTER “Beantown” has moved beyond the staid and stale and is quickly earning a reputation as a burgeoning culinary centre. This gastronomic renaissance is being led in part by award-wining chefs like Barbara Lynch (recipient of the 2004 James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurateur) and Tim Maslow (one of Food & Wine’s 2015 “Best New Chefs”). But Boston’s ethnic enclaves deserve just as much credit, giving locals and visitors an array of mouth-watering options ranging from Brazilian and Haitian cuisine to Thai and Italian. There’s never been a better time to be a foodie in Boston. But don’t worry—if you really want one, you can still get a classic lobster roll, too (head for Yankee Lobster Company on the waterfront for the full effect).

Even fiercely loyal locals will acknowledge that , , Boston isn t a great pizza town, which makes Ernesto s Pizza in North End even more of a treasure. Each slice , is actually a quarter of a large pie (they ll cut it in half if you ask). All of the options are delicious, with fresh ingredients, gooey cheese and a doughy-yetcrunchy crust. But the Chicken Ranch—- a white pizza consisting of ranch dressing, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, tomatoes and onions —- is the best. (ernestosnorthend.com)
NEWBURY STREET A posh shopping district that also dishes out upscale fare. NORTH END An Italian enclave bursting with pasta and pastries. DORCHESTER Home to the city’s best Vietnamese restaurants. SOUTH END A hip ’hood with an eclectic mix of trendy options.

They sit a biscotti’s throw away from each other on Hanover Street in the North End. (mikespastry.com; modernpastry.com)
For another favourite, head to Flour Bakery (with four locations around the city), where locals line up on weekends for the sticky buns and homemade Oreos. (flourbakery.com) In Cambridge, visit Sofra Bakery & Cafe (pictured) for Middle Eastern sweets with a twist. Try the chocolate-hazelnut baklava. (sofrabakery.com)
