BUILDING DEFINITION

Top A black metal band forms a garland at the top of the building. The facade’s brick weave

ends below the last tenant floor and forms a crenellated top. Double height glass shifts the glass module panel at the top. A glass handrail is offset behind the brick facade. A one story mechanical penthouse forms a small block on the roof hidden from pedestrian view.

Middle The middle defined by tenant floors have a facade that is a weave of interlacing panels of brick. The brick alternates with glass in modules of 4’ x 8’, respectively.

Base The base is a podium two stories in height and clad in black metal. Storefronts on ground level have large full height glass openings. The horizontal bands are slightly offset from the vertical columns to allow for signage integration as well as lighting underneath the soffits. A projected ring around the top of the second story black band highlights the base of the building.

Top A horizontal band defines the top of the building and acts as a cornice. A gap is kept between

the final floor and the top band of the building. A folded canopy of louvers forms a horizontal reference level line. A two story mechanical penthouse further defines the top and is setback

Middle The middle of the building, defined by tenant floors, comprises of horizontal bands of metal and glass. The horizontal metal bands are articulated with horizontal elements that create surface relief and continue onto the glass to become sunshading louvers. Vertical shadow gaps accentuate the underlying structural grid.

Base The base of the building expresses greater transparency through glass panels that make up the storefronts. Canopies are hung by cables to provide shading for pedestrians. The base becomes a double height space at the corner of South and Earle streets to signify the entrance to the lobby and respond to the base level reference line of Building 1 across Earle street. The paneling color also becomes a shade of red to match the brick of Building 1.

ANTHRACITE COLORED ALUMINUM PANELS FORM THE SPANDRELS WITH GLASS IN BETWEEN. THE PANELS ARE FURTHER ARTICULATED ON THE SURFACE WITH LOUVERS THAT CREATE RELIEF ON THE OPAQUE SPANDRELS AND PROVIDE SHADING ON THE GLASS PANELS.
