BOYS INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE RULES (Wednesday, January 04, 2017) PLAYERS 1. Refer to the TCKL Registration Forms for the player grade levels for this league.

PITCHING A pitching machine will be used. The manager or assistant coach shall be the person allowed to feed the balls into the machine. Both the coaches will agree on the speed setting. The speed setting should not be changed once the game has begun, unless both managers agree. The pitcher will take the field position behind the pitching machine (opposite the exposed wheel). Three (3) strikes is an out. No walks will be issued. a. A maximum of 10 pitches shall be supplied to each hitter, after the tenth pitch has been issued the batter shall be considered out even if the batter hits a foul ball on this pitch he is still considered out after the tenth pitch. Actual game conditions will exist. The teams will exchange positions upon completion of the third out or the fifth run scored during the teams at bat. If the pitching machine is unavailable or malfunctioning the batting team’s manager or a designated assistant will pitch to his team.

FIELD RULES 1. Pitching and base distance will be as specified below: a. Pitching = 40 Feet from the pitching machine b. Bases = 60 Feet 2. Because the Instructional League most often plays two games per night on the same field, no new inning shall begin for both games after 1 hour and 15 minutes. a. Please respect the starting time of the second game. b. Please refer to the General Rules - All Leagues for additional game length requirements. 3. No bunting. 4. No infield fly rule. 5. All games are to be played with not more than 10 players on the field and 8 players are required to start a game. a. The infield shall consist of no more than 6 players including the pitcher and catcher. b. The outfield shall consist of no more than 4 players which shall be positioned as follows; Left Field / Left Center / Right Center / Right Field c. All outfielders must be placed within the grass area of the field. d. No outfielder shall be placed right behind second base. 6. There will be no leadoffs or stolen bases. 7. Time out may be called by either manager, while the ball is dead, to instruct players. 8. Any team on offense, upon scoring five (5) runs in any half inning, shall yield its turn at bat and take the field (defense). The half inning shall be considered as ended upon scoring the fifth run.

a. Any run scored after the fifth run for the team batting will not be counted towards the score for that inning. The maximum runs scored per team per inning shall be no more than 5 runs. 9. No advances will be allowed on overthrows. The runner shall not advance beyond the base they are going to at the time of the throw within or back to the infield. 10. Any ball that hits the pitching machine or stops within the 4 foot circle around the pitching machine is automatically a dead ball. Batters will be awarded 1st base and runners will advance one base. a. The intent of this rule is to keep the pitchers and infielders away from the pitching machine. 11. Any game that ends in a tie will remain a tie game. There will be no extra innings played if the game either meets the time limit or has played the 6 full innings. a. Time limits shall be the leading factor of a complete game. 12. All players are to play at least one inning in the infield per game
