MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide an opportunity for our youth to learn team building skills, accountability, problem solving, respect, sportsmanship, and a sense of community through fun and fitness by way of lacrosse.
The most common concern or statement we hear in admittance or almost pre-defense is: “I don’t know ANYTHING about lacrosse”. If that resonates with you…welcome to New Prague Lacrosse. Absolutely NO experience necessary whether you are a player, coach, administrator, or happy sideline parent. Come aboard. You’re in good company, you’re in the right place.
1
HISTORY We have record dating back to 2008 of correspondence with the High School Activities Director and 2009 of correspondence with Community Education in an effort to start youth and high school lacrosse in New Prague. In 2010 we hosted a “try lacrosse” opportunity with Community Education and only had one child register. It wasn’t until the Summer of 2014 that our first “official” seven week free clinic was offered over which more than 85 boys and girls ranging from 6 to 16 years old scooped groundballs, learned to pass, catch, and shoot, and heavily pondered what next Spring would hold for them. Late February of 2015 came around and, with the help of New Prague Community Education, 4 girls and 63 boys formed U11, U13, and U15 teams to compete in the MBSLA for our inaugural season. 2
NEW FOR 2017 ASSOCIATION Our families are falling in love with lacrosse. A sure sign of that is how, after the 2016 season, our association executive board grew from its original three to now seven diverse and talented members. We are also, now, as of 2016, the proud new Adopt-A-Highway “owners” of the two mile stretch east of town on 19 just east of 13. The Boy’s program is adding a club Varsity team and the Girl’s program is expanding to add younger teams at 12U and 10U. New Prague Lacrosse Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. LEAGUE The GNLL is simplifying its level designation from A, B1, and B2 to just A and B. US Lacrosse is changing its age classifications from odd to even. Example U9, U11, U13, etc. is now 8U, 10U, 12U, etc. 3

HELP/VOLUNTEERISM New Prague Lacrosse Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our volunteer-driven existence relies on the non-monetary contribution of many selfless individuals. Perhaps your hobby or professional skills translate to benefit our program. We need to hear from you. Without volunteers your child simply does not have this opportunity available to them. Help make their experience everything it can be and more! Please email our director today if there is an area you can contribute. 2016 Team Staff Volunteers High School

PRACTICES & GAMES PRACTICES Each team will have separate practice schedules. Days, times, and locations will be established after registration. Historically, practice has been conducted for an hour to an hour and a half, twice each week. The high school team will start practicing indoors during March. The younger teams will start practicing outdoors during mid-April when weather permits. GAMES The High School Varsity schedule was set in December. The association director will attend the MBSLA annual scheduling meeting on Saturday, March 4th to propose the schedule for the High School 9/10 team. The association director will attend the GNLL annual scheduling meeting on Saturday, March 11th to propose a schedule for the youth teams. After the scheduling meetings the leagues will make any necessary resource efficiency tweaks, assign officials, and publish the schedules around the end of March. Until then, it is 100% out of our control. We will distribute within a few hours of receipt. Games are double-headers (8U is single games) typically played one day per weekend. During the regular season the 8U team will have about 10 games, the 10U team about 12, the 12U and 14U teams about 14, the High School 9/10 team about 12, and the High School Varsity team about 10. The season will conclude at the end of June with a post-season tournament. We promise not to schedule games on Mother’s Day, Fishing Opener weekend, and Memorial Day weekend. 6

BOX vs FIELD We will be playing field lacrosse
BOX
The most noticable differences between box and field are as follows:
Field of play:
Box - Hockey rink with turf Field – Slightly wider and longer than a football field
Number of players:
Box – 5 V 5 (+ goalies) Field – 9 V 9 (+ goalies) (8U & 10U are 6 V 6 + goalies & play on small field)
Goal Size:
FIELD
Box – 4 feet wide X 4 feet tall Field – 6 feet wide X 6 feet tall
Goalie Equipment:
Box – Similar to hockey Field – Are they even wearing pads?
Long Sticks: 8
Box – Not allowed Field – 12U and older allowed up to as many as 4, but not required to have any
GIRLS vs BOYS
Same name, lacrosse, but different field markings, number of players on the field, equipment requirements, and rules. All players, regardless of their gender, will be treated with the same dignity and respect, and held to the same expectations. 9
