Boys Varsity Basketball The Gunnery basketball program stresses hard work, fundamentals, teamwork, and discipline at our core, and we look to develop these skills within the structure of the team. Considered one of the premier leagues in the country, we play in the very competitive New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), which had seven players taken in the 2014 NBA draft. Each year we play a competitive 24 game schedule and each year have non-conference games against Trinity-Pawling, Cheshire Academy, Salisbury School, Choate Rosemary Hall, and Williston Northampton School. In the 2014 season, the varsity team completed a 12-8, barely missing the playoffs, with Mason Pollock receiving All-League recognition. Boys Basketball at The Gunnery has a long and storied history. The Gunnery has a solid tradition in basketball from the legendary teams of the 1940’s and 1950’s with Coach Beebe, who won seven Tri-State League titles during this time. The Gunnery also had solid teams during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Gunnery teams have always showed great competitive spirit, outstanding sportsmanship, and the never ending pursuit for excellence. Many Gunnery players have continued playing at the college level, and recent graduates have gone off to play at Colby College, Babson College, Vermont Military Institute, Cleveland State, and Ware. The Gunnery basketball teams have also had many players who enjoy playing the game but are not looking to play at the college level, and just want to help the team succeed in any way they can.
