When my days were dark and dreary, and my body so weak weary, Thank God I’m Free. When body was wracked in pain, from this world I have nothing to gain. Thank God I’m Free, In my times of travail when disease had partaken of my flesh, And all else failed; only through you, oh Lord, did I ever prevail. No more pain, nor more suffering, no more sorrow, No more wondering about the trials of tomorrow. Thank God I’m Free. Oh family and friends, do not prolong your grief for me. Do not become unraveled, for my last road, I have traveled. Do not be distraught, for my last battle has been fought. The time of my sojourning here on earth has passed; I now have peace at last. Thank God I’m Free. Trust in God, obey His Word, that’s the only way. Remember He has the final say. Just take care of yourselves, love God and each other, And from God don’t you stray; For I desire us all to meet with the Lord On that Great Glorious Day! When I have done my best, oh how sweet it is to rest Forever on Our Savior’s breast. Thank God I’m Free.

“A precious one from us is gone, a voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our hearts which only God can fill.”

Mrs. Martha Ann Bratton Jones was born January 4, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina. She departed this life on July 5, 2017 at Palmetto Health Richland. She was the eldest of nine siblings born to the late Thomas and Georgia Bratton, Sr. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Thomas Jones, Sr. in 1967. To this union, five children were born. Martha was educated in the public schools of Richland County, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. She went on to attend Nursing School at the Midlands Technical College School of Nursing. She worked as a dedicated, compassionate, caring nurse for many years until her retirement from the C.M. Tucker Nursing Care Center, due to illness. Growing up in a family with strong Christian values, Martha was baptized at an early age on July 7, 1959 in the name of Jesus Christ, according to Acts 2:38, at Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc. Martha was a kind, loving, caring, generous and forgiving wife mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved God first of all and will be missed by all who loved and knew her. She was a strong foundation for the family. Those left to cherish Martha’s precious memories are: her husband, Thomas Jones, Sr.; her beloved children: Sonya Jones and Thomas (Valerie) Jones, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Timothy Jones of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cornelia (Leroy) Green of Blythewood, South Carolina and Sheila Jones, also of Columbia; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her beloved siblings: Thomas Bratton, Jr., Larry Bratton, Christopher Bratton, Margaret Pitts, Dorothy (Robert) Jones and Priscilla Bratton; one aunt, Hattie Rawls of Bronx, New York; a dear, special, family friend for years, Edward L. Furtick; and a host of other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
