The official opening ceremony of the event will take place at the Itamaraty Palace and will have the presence of over ten heads of State and government, as well as authorities from the Organization of the United Nations. The ceremony requires special credentials granted by the Ministry of Foreign affairs, but will be streamed live, starting 9am on March 19, to the master auditorium of the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, which can be accessed with the Forum's official credential. The World Water Forum is the largest event on the planet on the subject. “Sharing water” is the central theme of the eighth edition, which brings together representatives of governments, academia, civil society, public and private companies and non-‐governmental organizations around the world. Hosted for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere, the World Water Forum is a space for dialog and exchange of experiences and good practices related to the use of water, considered by the UN (United Nations) a fundamental right of humanity. The focus on sustainability aligns the Forum with the Sustainable Development Goals for drinking water and sanitation (ODS-‐6), the agenda set by the UN, that proposes goals to be achieved globally by 2030. The novelty of the brazilian edition will be the Citizen Village, a free space and open to the entire population, which will be the arena of debates, exhibitions, lectures, cinema, handicrafts, talk shows and interactive workshops. The Village is built at the Mané Garrincha National Stadium, near the venue for the debates, the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center. 45 thousand visitors are expected during the event. See the full agenda of the event: http://www.worldwaterforum8.org/pt-‐br/vila-‐cidadã. The World Water Forum is held every three years and is an initiative of the World Water Council, an international organization based in Marseilles, France, which consists of representatives from governments, the academia, civil society, business and non-‐governmental organizations, forming a significant spectrum of institutions related to water. According to the executive director of the 8th Forum, Ricardo Andrade, who is the governor of the World Council of Water, the event is a unique opportunity to show the world what Brazil has done in relation to the issue. “The core subject of the event, ‘Sharing Water’, means to exchange experiences, good practices, and appropriate solutions between countries, . Andrade points out that one of the goals of the Forum is to promote the engagement of society, administrators and the public sector. “We have a portion of the population that does not participate in this process and who needs to be involved in it.
