• How do you define integrity? How does that differ from the people you live life alongside and their definition of integrity? What challenges do those differences present in your relationship?
• Do you think the label of “hypocrite” for Christians is fair? Why or why not?
Looking at Scripture:
• Read 1 Peter 2:11-12… Why do you suppose we’re referred to as foreigners and exiles? Does that speak at all to how we think of integrity? How so?
• Is there a difference between a sinful desire and a sinful act? How are the two related and how are we supposed to abstain from a desire? Aren’t desires uncontrollable?
• Peter clearly calls us to a “life on display,” what is his explanation of why we should do that? Discuss the difference between good deeds for salvation versus good deeds for the glory of God.
• In week one of this series, we discussed the idea that fame doesn’t require consensus; just commitment. Peter seems to agree. Why is it so important for us to continue to be like Jesus when someone blatantly disagrees with our faith?
Application Questions:
• This week’s bottom line was PEOPLE LISTEN MORE TO WHAT YOU DO THAN WHAT YOU SAY. Do you spend more time talking than doing? What are some practical steps you can take this week in order to change that? How different will your patterns have to become at work, home, or school?
• Josh said that sometimes our hypocrisy isn’t as much about what we say but don’t do as it is what we do but don’t truly believe. Do you agree with that? How have you seen that in your interactions with other Christians?
• Everyone walked out with a copy of Immanuel’s Core Beliefs & Values on Sunday
morning. Josh challenged us to wrestle with whether or not we really believe those things and do the practiced values reflect our everyday lives; discuss with the group what surprised you, stuck out to you, or challenged you in that process.
End your time together praying for one another and how each in the group will work to make Jesus famous for the right reasons this week. Perhaps the group leader can send a text/email reminding everyone to think different this week.
