Brookmans Park School Newsletter 2 21st October 2016 Dear Parents, As we go into the first half term holiday of the academic year I would like to thank you for your continued support. It has been great to see so many of you learning alongside your children at our Parent Partner sessions. Your feedback after these is very useful and we have noted that you all enjoy the chance to see what and how your children are learning in school. It was lovely to spend this morning working in partnership with the local Rotary Club and Parish Council to plant crocuses in the local area to raise awareness of polio. The children all enjoyed being outdoors, doing something for the local community. Hopefully we can all enjoy these efforts when the crocuses bloom in February and add some colour to our environment. I would like to remind you to check our website regularly as we are working hard to keep it up-dated with key information that you need as well as information about what your child has been learning in school. You will find the term dates for 2017/2018 have been added. Next half term Mr Conway and I will be inviting you to join us for a few informal coffee mornings. The purpose of these will be for you to chat to other parents and ourselves about relevant educational matters. I will give further details about these after the holiday. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable break! Kind regards, Mrs Aileen Davies Building Learning Power Our Learning Ambassadors have selected images to go with each of our five learning powers: Relationships Resourcefulness Risk Taking
Resilience
Reflectiveness
Your children have already been learning about these learning powers and they will be our main focus for the rest of the year. It is vital that our children develop a love of learning and the ability to learn effectively. I will hold an information session about this after half term so that you understand the purpose of this focus and how you can use this at home. Bags2School: Please start collecting your unwanted clothing and shoes as we will be distributing the blue bags after half term. This is an easy fundraising for us as the heavier the bags the more money we raise.
House news: Thank you to Mrs Zerny and Mr Neiman for organising a fantastic House Cross Country Competition last week. The children all put a lot of effort into their run. A particular well done to Earth for winning the first House event of the year! Overall, Air House have gained the most house points this half term. As a reward, they will be allowed to come into school in their own clothes on Friday, 4th November. Staffing: This week we say a fond farewell to Mrs Yeldham who has taught at our school for 16 years. She has already started a new exciting role as SENCO at another school in September and will be still coming back to us to help out with supply teaching. To replace her we have recruited an extremely experienced teacher, Mrs Andrea Pollington. Mrs Pollington will be teaching Diamond Class every Thursday after half term and Mrs Luck will be teaching the remainder of the time. Then, after Christmas, Mrs Pollington will be teaching Diamond Class three days a week and Mrs Luck will be teaching the other two. Dates for your Diary October 16

PTA NEWS Thanks to all our helpers and everyone who came along to Happy's Circus last Wednesday. We are delighted to report a fundraising total of £1,870. We have already booked for 2018 - put Thursday 4th October in your diaries! You may have noticed a professional photographer, Kenny Durbin, was at the event - his photos are available to view at www.kjdurbinphotography.co.uk/gallery/ brookmans-park-circus-2016-27301. If you would like any photos to be removed please contact us at
[email protected]. We held our annual Events Planning meeting last Thursday and came up with lots of ideas for raising money in 2017. Dates and details will follow in due course but in the meantime please note that our annual Quiz Night is back by popular demand on Saturday 21st January. Enjoy an evening of questions, games, bingo and general mayhem! We hope you all enjoyed our spooky Halloween Disco yesterday - there were some great costumes on display. Finally, don't forget the three easy ways you can raise money for our school: 1. Join the 200 Club email or call Karen Rockcliffe:
