Location: The Buckle L Ranch is situated in Childress and Cottle Counties, Texas. The ranch mailing address is the town of Childress, which is about 10 miles north of the ranch main gate. The ranch fronts on US Hwy 83. Childress is about 100 miles from Amarillo, Lubbock 138, Wichita Falls 107, Dallas 240, Fort Worth 220, and Oklahoma City is approximately 200 miles. Besides an entrance on US Hwy 83, the Buckle L also has two additional entrances on the north property line from county roads, being the Buckle L Road and County Road 15.
Water: Awesome water! The ranch has over 23 miles of both sides of the clear running North Pease River. In addition there are over 35 miles of creeks, with 9 being named creeks with four of these being live water fed by natural springs. These are Scatterbranch Creek, Shores Creek, Shadow Creek, and Flat Top Creek. The other five are nice wet weather creeks. The springs emanate from gently sloping hillsides, and carve flow paths thru good soils and rock outcrops before emptying in the North Pease River. Many of the lakes are home to very good largemouth bass, catfish and perch. Deeper areas of the river hold bass and perch. Shore Creek has a beautiful natural rock waterfall. 40 good surface tanks that hold water. Additional 10 plus which are seasonal. The Buckle L is home to a wide variety of native game, including trophy whitetail and mule deer, bobwhite quail, turkey, dove, ducks, geese, hogs, bobcat, and aoudad sheep. Great fishing in many of the 40 lakes on the ranch. Encompassing some 58 square miles, the Buckle L offers a true sanctuary for growing huge native deer. The owner has rested the ranch and there has been very limited to no grazing over the past 2 1/2 years. With all the food plots and the feeding program, the wildlife stays in fantastic condition. The best whitetail to date is 193 typical with mule deer in the 160"s up to 180 B & C so far. The water on the Buckle L is just hard to describe and needs to be seen in person to understand why this ranch attracts and holds such good numbers of quality deer. There are many areas where hunting quail with bird dogs is as good as anywhere in the rolling plains. The many tanks attract lots of waterfowl of all types.
