Build Language Skills: Vocabulary The Prefixes con- and subThe prefix con- means “together” or “the same.” The word conclude, which contains the prefix con-, means “to pull together details to reach an opinion or come up with an idea.” The prefix sub- means “under” or “below.” It is the prefix in the word subject. One meaning of subject is “a topic under study or discussion.”

DIRECTIONS: Write a definition of the italicized word in each sentence. Base your definition on your knowledge of the prefix and the context clues in the sentence.
