“that we may know Christ and make him known”
Processional:……….Keep Me Every Day, INSERT Collect of the Day-Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Anthem: GIVE EAR UNTO MY WORDS J.S. Bach/Arr. D. Wagner
Psalm 29
{Parish Choir} ———————————————————Job 28:20-27 “Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the birds of the air. Abaddon and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’ “God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees everything under the heavens. When he gave to the wind its weight, and apportioned out the waters by measure; when he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the thunderbolt; then he saw it and declared it; he established it, and searched it out.
CANTOR SINGS REFRAIN CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN Ascribe to the LORD, you gods, * ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his Name; * worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; * the LORD is upon the mighty waters. The voice of the LORD is a powerful voice; * the voice of the LORD is a voice of splendor. CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN The voice of the LORD breaks the cedar trees; * the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon; He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, * and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox. CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN The voice of the LORD splits the flames of fire; the voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; * the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Flowers given by: Penny Stubbs
The voice of the LORD makes the oak trees writhe * and strips the forests bare. And in the temple of the LORD * all are crying, "Glory!" CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN The LORD sits enthroned above the flood; * the LORD sits enthroned as King for evermore.
In honor of my parents John & Midge Cristobal
The LORD shall give strength to his people; * the LORD shall give his people the blessing of peace. CONGREGATION SINGS REFRAIN
I Corinthians 1:21-31 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Processional: Keep Me Every Day
Sequence……….#608, Eternal Father, strong to save Luke 8:22-25 One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they put out, and while they were sailing he fell asleep. A windstorm swept down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water, and they were in danger. They went to him and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were afraid and amazed, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?” Jesus Heals the Gerasene Demoniac Then they arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. As he stepped out on land, a man of the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he fell down before him and shouted at the top of his voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me”— Recessional……….#412, Earth and all stars
