WELCOME At his crucifixion, Christ spoke, according to the scriptures, 7 times. Those 7 utterances speak to Christ’s experience of the pain and isolation of the cross, but they also speak to 7 hard things that Christ came to redeem. As we navigate Lent this year, we want to explore these 7 words that are spread throughout the gospels and gain a deeper understanding of things that Christ himself experienced, and through His experience, redeemed at Golgatha and beyond.

Our Mission: We exist to make disciples who put God’s love on display to our world. Our Vision is to see a people inspired by God’s love and faithfully sharing that love with the world. Our Values: Every member of The River is daily and communally engaged in a deeper relationship with Jesus through…
We welcome people into our lives appreciating our differences and similarities. We will grow by following the Holy Spirit’s work in and around us. We will give generously of our time, talents and finances to see God’s kingdom grow. We will go where God calls us to go. We will serve intentionally using and growing the gifts God has given us.
On Easter Sunday, the second offering will be received for the Christian Reformed Church’s Resonate Global Mission. Resonate Global Mission is the new name for the denominational agency that oversees the work of what used to be called CRC World Missions and CRC Home Missions. Resonate Global Mission trains missional leaders, guides new churches, and forges partnerships to proclaim and live out the good news of Jesus Christ worldwide. This work is supported by the ministry shares that churches pay as well as offerings such as the one we are taking on Easter. The local representative for Resonate Global Mission is our own Nick In’t Hout who works with churches in our region called Classis California South.
The people of The River believe in investing in outreach activities. One of the ways that we do this is by supporting both financially and prayerfully a number of different organizations, ministries and Christian groups. There will be two offerings each Sunday. The first one is for The River Life Fund. The schedule for the second offering is as follows: Feb. 11: CEF Feb. 18: Grace Valley CRC, Las Vegas Feb. 25: Missions Mar. 4: Benevolence Mar. 11: CEF Mar. 18: Missions
Mar. 25: Beautiful Gate Orphanage, Lesotho, Africa Apr. 1: Resonate Global Mission April 8: Benevolence April 15: CEF April 22: Missions April 29: GEMS/Cadets

The 7 words of Christ: Doubt Matthew 27:46, Genesis 17 Have you ever wondered? A. 1-8: God makes some big promises to Abram. “I will make you very fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.” Vs. 6
B. 9-14: Then Abram is asked to take a step. “This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: every male among you shall be circumcised.” Vs. 10
The beginning of The River. C. 15-18: Abram’s doubt gets the better of him. “Abraham fell face down; he laughed and said to himself, ‘Will a son be born to a man at hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?’” Vs. 17
D. 19-27: God responds to Abram’s doubt and Abram takes a step. “On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and…every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.” Vs. 23
What does this mean for us?
