Mathematics

Things you can do with your child at home:

Our focus for this half term is measures, including time and area and perimeter. We will be looking at mastering converting measures by multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. In addition we will learn how to tell the time using 24 hour digital clock As part of our continuous objectives we will continue to use our skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve problems.

Reading is extremely important and it's best to read little and often, so try to put aside some time for it every day. It can help to schedule a regular time for reading - perhaps when you get home from school or just before bed.

English We are reading ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes, from this we will develop opportunities to write diaries, newspaper reports and further chapters for the book. We will also have opportunities for cross curricular writing in RE and Topic work.

To help support maths it's important to show how we use maths skills in our everyday lives and to involve your child in this. Take your child shopping and talk about the quantities of anything you buy. Let your child handle money and work out how much things cost. Knowing all of the times tables and related facts will really support your child in their learning, please practise regularly at home.

Encourage your child to write descriptive paragraphs at home focussing on correct punctuation and grammar. Using mini quizzes throughout the week will also help your child to learn their spellings.
