Goats for Burundi Goal: $140 for 2 goats & medicine About this Mission Project Located in Eastern Africa, Burundi is one of the ten poorest nations in the world. Civil war devastated the economy of Burundi and ravaged livestock. As reconstruction efforts begin, nearly 450,000 refugees are returning to their homeland. The Evangelical Free Baptist Church of Burundi has begun a goat project to ease food shortages, alleviate rampant malnutrition, and help families send their children to school. Goats will provide milk – often the only food for children. Their manure improves the soil helping crops grow. Goat herds increase quickly providing a source of meat and income. Families share the offspring so others have goats to raise. A goat costs $50 plus $20 for medicine to keep the animal healthy. The people of Burundi will raise another $5,000 themselves to construct stalls for the goats and plant fodder for them to eat.

Goat’s milk provides immediate relief from famine and malnutrition. Raising goats secures the survival of families and villages. Extra milk can be made into butter, cheese and yogurt to sell at market.

$140 buys 2 goats plus medicine. $350 buys 5 goats plus medicine. www.internationalministries.org
