Eliminate hazardous materials with RoHS compliant products

SERIES

Eaton’s commitment As Eaton conducts business around the world, we are committed to enhancing our products to meet global governmental environmental mandates now in effect. Eaton has pledged to eliminate hazardous materials in our products regardless of application or market. We’ve initiated a comprehensive review of Bussmann® series products to substitute non-hazardous materials into their construction wherever possible.

Low voltage fuses CUBEFuse™

A key component of our commitment is meeting the European Union’s (EU) Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive 2011/65/EC that is subordinate to the EU’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.

About the RoHS directive The RoHS directive restricts materials used in electrical and electronic equipment from consumer products sold in the EU. These substances currently include:

Additionally, Eaton’s Bussmann Division has chosen NOT to take Exemption 7(a) which allows for high temperature lead-based solder.

• • • • • •

As such, we have taken the necessary steps to revise the construction of our Bussmann series products to be compliant with the restrictions for these identified substances. Many of our products are certified by third party testing or certifications provided by our suppliers.

Lead Mercury Cadmium Hexavalent chromium Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) flame retardant Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) flame retardant

The maximum allowable amount at homogeneous material levels is currently set at 1000ppm by weight, except cadmium, which is currently set at 100ppm by weight.

RoHS compliance status is kept up to date in a database and available online using our RoHS compliance product search tool.

Frequently asked questions How are Eaton products affected by the RoHS directive? If the Eaton product is a component of electrical or electronic equipment that falls under the WEEE directive’s scope, then the Eaton product must be compliant with the hazardous materials specified in RoHS. These are most likely to be products used in consumer electronics and appliances. Today, many Bussmann series products are outside the scope of the WEEE directive and not subject to the restrictions contained in the RoHS directive. These products are primarily used in power distribution systems, stationary large-scale industrial tools or as replacements for existing products already on the market. However, we are changing our products to meet the requirements of the RoHS directive, ahead of schedule, regardless of their status under WEEE.

How can I tell if a Bussmann series product is compliant? Eaton’s Bussmann Division has a RoHS compliance product search engine on our website. This search engine permits searching single or multiple Bussmann series catalog numbers and will return status results, including the date codes for when the product became RoHS complaint.

Surge protection

Is Eaton issuing product compliance notifications? Product compliance notifications are made available via the RoHS compliance search engine. When a search inquiry returns a RoHS compliant result, users have the option of downloading a certificate of compliance. The RoHS compliance search engine can be reached at Eaton.com/bussmannseries/RoHS. What if a RoHS compliant product is not available for my application? PV fuses

Will these changes affect product performance? No. Our objective is first and foremost to maintain the reliability of our products so they provide their intended function as originally designed and manufactured. We fully intend to maintain all performance characteristics for our Bussmann series products, including fuse time-current curves and peak let-through curves.

If the RoHS compliance search engine returns a noncomplaint status for the product you need, scroll down the web page and complete the request form. It will be reviewed and you’ll receive a reply with a possible RoHS compliant solution.

Will I have problems with my current inventory? Unless you produce a finished consumer product for sale in the European Union that is subject to WEEE, your inventory is NOT affected by the RoHS directive.

Are the catalog numbers changing for products that are being made RoHS complaint? No, to simplify the transition period and to retain inventory systems already in place, catalog numbers are not changing to reflect a product’s transition to a RoHS compliant construction. Compliance is determined by the product’s date code for when it became RoHS complaint. Some products, including electronics, may be denoted with a -R suffix to designate RoHS compliance.
