The Cougar Basketball Academy is in its 28th season as one of the finest youth camps in Missouri. The Academy is designed to develop the basketball potential of each participant. Columbia College Coach Bob Burchard and his staff stress fundamentals and team concepts integral to successfully playing basketball. The staff takes pride in the amount of individual instruction each participant receives. Staff members include current and former Columbia College basketball players and top area coaches. Additionally, several contests of skill and shooting are held at various times during each camp session. Columbia College Coach Bob Burchard is the most successful coach in Cougar basketball history. Through his first 27 seasons, Burchard amassed a record of 690236 (.745). Burchard was named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Coach of the Year for the 10th time in 2014 and took home National Coach of the Year honors in 2012 after leading the Cougars to an undefeated regular season and a No. 1 National Ranking. In 2008-09, after winning the AMC Tournament championship, the Cougars earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Columbia advanced deeper into the tournament then they ever had before, making it all the way to the tournament championship game. In the summer of 2008, Burchard was selected as one of the inductees into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Hall of Fame. He also became a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 for his dedication and achievement as head coach of the Cougars. Burchard received his bachelor's degree in education from Catawba College in 1979 and his master's degree from East Carolina University in 1980. He is a native of McLean, Virginia.
