April 18, 2009 • Winchester, Va. • 1 p.m. No. 16 Cabrini Wraps Up Road Schedule at Shenandoah The No. 16 Cabrini men’s lacrosse team concludes its regular season road schedule Saturday, April 18 at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Shenandoah University. Face-off with the Hornets is set for 1 p.m. The Cavaliers resume its CSAC slate riding the nation’s longest win streak in conference play, winning its last 83 games versus league opponents, including the postseason since the 2001 campaign. Cabrini assumed the country’s top billing following Salisbury University’s 12-8 loss against Stevenson University April 4. Senior Scott Reimer begins Saturday’s contest on the doorstep of yet another milestone. Already the Cavaliers’ all-time leader in career goals and owner of the program’s single-season record for goals (68), Reimer is just one goal shy of becoming Cabrini’s first player ever to reach 200 goals in a career. • Amidst a season-best five-game win streak, the Cabrini men’s lacrosse team ranks No. 16 in this week’s release of the USILA Top 20 poll. Unbeaten Stevenson University claimed the poll’s top spot for the third straight week. • Cabrini resumes Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition having won its last 83 games versus league opponents, the nation’s longest conference win streak. The Cavaliers have won 68 consecutive games against CSAC foes during the regular season dating back to 2001. • Senior attackman Scott Reimer is one goal shy of becoming Cabrini’s first 200-goal scorer in a career. Reimer is the program’s all-time leader in career goals, scoring 199 in 65 career games played. • Junior attackman Casey Grugan, who became Cabrini’s third player all-time to reach 200 career points April 4 versus Drew, is tied for 8th on the Cavaliers’ single-season list for points. Through 12 games, Grugan has posted 66 points on 32 goals and 34 assists. He ranks second and fourth nationally in points (5.50) and assists (2.83) per game.

Last Time Out • vs. Shenandoah University RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 15 Cabrini men’s lacrosse team captured its fifth consecutive win Saturday, downing local rival Widener University, 15-11, at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Junior attackman Casey Grugan powered the Cavaliers with a game-high five points. Grugan extended his consecutive points streak to 50 games, scoring two goals and adding three assists against the Pride. He moves into a tie for eighth-place all-time on Cabrini’s single-season points chart with 66, matching former Cavalier Mike Pape’s (1999-2002) performance in 2001. B.J. Kletcheck Casey Grugan Senior midfielder B.J. Kletcheck, sophomore midfielder Dan Terenick and freshman attackman Brian Hill each contributed a season-high four points. Kletcheck and Terenick each buried three goals and dished one assist. Hill paired two scores with two assists. Senior attackman Scott Reimer posted two points on two goals. Reimer, the program’s all-time leader in career goals, is one marker shy of becoming the first Cavalier all-time to reach the 200-goal plateau. Junior attackman Steve Kapp and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski notched two points, each scoring one goal and handing out one assist. Widener became just the third team this season to win more face-offs than Cabrini, claiming 15 victories at the X against 13 from the Cavaliers. Senior Mike Dolente went 9-for-20 in the face-off circle, while classmate Kevin Fahey won 4-of-8 tries. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Chenoweth ran all 60 minutes for the Blue & White in the cage, earning his ninth win of the season with 14 saves. Chenoweth tallied 10 saves in the second half. Saturday’s win was the Cavaliers’ third in the last four seasons against Widener. The 2006 and 2007 contests resulted in a combined five overtimes with each team earning a win. The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team extended its season-best win streak to five games with a 15-11 win against local rival Widener University April 11. Junior attackman Casey Grugan sparked the Cavaliers’ offense with five points on two goals and three assists.

The No. 15 Cabrini men’s lacrosse team kicked off a seasonlong three-game road swing with a 21-8 victory at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Centenary College. Junior attackman Casey Grugan led the Cavaliers offense with seven points on two goals and five assists.

Senior midfielder B.J. Kletcheck, sophomore midfielder Dan Terenick and freshman attackman Brian Hill each tallied four points. Senior attackman Scott Reimer posted two points on two goals, pulling to within one of the 200-goal plateau for his career.

Senior attackman Scott Reimer and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski each added five points against the Cyclones. Reimer deposited five goals, while Skulski paired two goals with three assists.

Cabrini’s win ended a streak of three straight contests against Widener decided by one goal. The 2006 and 2007 games combined to result in five overtime periods. No. 17 Cabrini Battles to 12-5 Win at Drew The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team wrapped up a season-long three-game road swing with a 12-5 victory at non-conference opponent Drew University April 4. No. 17 Cabrini Romps to 25-4 Victory at IU The No. 17 Cabrini men’s lacrosse team extended its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win streak to 83 games, including the postseason, with a 25-4 win at Immaculata University April 1. The 25 goals is a season-high output for the Cavaliers and the fourth highest total scored by a single team in the nation during the 2009 season. Cabrini has reached the 25-goal plateau three times since the 1995 season, including last year’s 25-3 win against Eastern University in the conference final. Junior attackman Casey Grugan tallied six points on three goals and three assists in the win, pulling himself to within two points of the 200-point plateau for his career.

Grugan has recorded at least eight points in three games in 2009. Cabrini improved its record to 21-4 at Edith Robb Dixon Field since the 2007 season. The game marked the first all-time between Gwynedd-Mercy and the Cavaliers on the men’s lacrosse field. No. 4 Roanoke Trips Up No. 8 Cabrini No. 4 Roanoke College snapped No. 8 Cabrini’s 10-game home win streak with a 16-13 win March 21. Cavaliers’ senior attackman Scott Reimer scored three goals in the loss, becoming the second Cabrini men’s lacrosse player to reach 200 points in a career. No. 8 Cabrini Stumbles at No. 18 Gettysburg Junior attackman Casey Grugan tallied a team-high four points, but a fourth quarter Cabrini rally wasn’t enough in a 12-8 loss at No. 18 Gettysburg College March 18. Grugan scored two goals and dished two assists. Sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski added three points on three goals. Senior defenseman Jeff Moore scooped a team-high six groundball, moving into first-place on Cabrini’s all-time career list. Senior Mike Dolente won 15-of-22 face-offs and claimed five groundballs. The loss drops the Cavaliers to 1-2 against nationally-ranked opponents this season and 0-4 against the Bullets all-time. Grugan Powers No. 7 Cabrini Past HSC Junior attackman Casey Grugan’s eight-point performance on three goals and five assists led the Cavaliers past visiting Hampden-Sydney College March 14. Grugan moved into thirdplace all-time on Cabrini’s goal list and extended his consecutive points streak to 43 games. Senior attackman Scott Reimer notched four points on four goals against the Tigers. Reimer is just four points shy of the 200-point plateau. Senior defenseman Jeff Moore tallied 13 groundballs in the victory, pulling to within four shy of the program record. The Cavaliers improved their record to 20-3 all-time at Edith Robb Dixon Field and 3-0 against Hampden-Sydney. No. 5 Cabrini Dealt First Loss of 2009 Despite five points on four goals and one assist from senior midfielder Matt Conaway, the Cavaliers suffered a 16-11 loss at No. 11 Lynchburg College March 7. The Cabrini offense boasted eight players with at least one goal. Senior face-off specialist Mike Dolente recorded 17 draw victories in 24 tries against the Hornets. Dolente led the Cavaliers with eight groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Chenoweth added seven groundballs. The loss dropped Cabrini to 0-4 all-time against Lynchburg.

No. 5 Cabrini Rolls to Third Straight Win The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team improved its record to 3-0 for the third straight season with a 12-5 victory at home against Franklin & Marshall College. Sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski and freshman attackman Brian Hill each added two points on one goal and one assist. Senior defenseman Jeff Moore scooped seven groundballs and moved into sole possession of second place on Cabrini’s all-time list. The win was Cabrini’s first against the Diplomats in five tries. No. 5 Cavaliers Topple Local Rival Haverford Cabrini utilized a 9-0 scoring run in the first half en route to a convincing 15-3 win against No. 12 Haverford College February 28. Junior attackman Casey Grugan notched a team-best five points on two goals and three assists. Senior attackman Scott Reimer, junior midfielder Rich Romanelli and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski each tallied three points. Behind seniors Mike Dolente and Kevin Fahey, the Cavaliers won 16-of-22 face-offs. The Blue & White earned its third win against the Black Squirrels in less than two seasons. Cabrini twice knocked off Haverford in 2008, including a 13-10 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. No. 5 Cabrini Opens 2009 in Emphatic Fashion Cabrini opened its 2009 season on the road for the sixth straight season and for the eighth time in the last 10 years against Fairleigh Dickinson University February 25. Junior attackman Casey Grugan sparked the Cavaliers to an 18-9 win with nine points on four goals and five assists. Junior attackman Scott Reimer tallied five points on three scores and two helpers. Sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski totaled four points on three goals and one assist. Six Cabrini players scored at least two goals against the Devils. The Cavaliers’ 18 goals is a program record in season-opening contests, surpassing the squad’s 14-goal performances against St. Vincent College to open the 1995 campaign.

Grugan Tabbed National Player of the Week Junior attackman Casey Grugan was named the Inside Lacrosse Division III National Player of the Week March 31. Grugan totaled 15 points on eight goals and seven assists in two CSAC victories. Grugan posted eight points, pairing five goals with three assists in an 18-3 win against Gwynedd-Mercy College March 25. He tallied seven points on two goals and five assists in a 21-8 victory at Centenary College March 28. Grugan has been named the CSAC Player of the Week three times and been listed on the league’s weekly honor roll twice. Grugan Weekly Honors Junior attackman Casey Grugan’s play on the field in 2009 has been rewarded a number of times on a conference level and even nationally. Grugan has thrice been named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week. He was named the Division III National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse March 31. Reimer Earns Player of the Week Distinction Senior attackman Scott Reimer earned Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week distinction Monday, April 6. Reimer posted a season and team-high seven points on five goals and two assists in Cabrini’s 12-5 win at Drew University April 4. He tallied five points on five goals in the Cavaliers’ 25-4 victory at Immaculata University April 1. Reimer leads the Blue & White in goals this season, scoring 35. He is just one goal short of 200 for his career.

Cavaliers Among Nation’s Best Junior attackman Casey Grugan lists among the nation’s Top 50 players in two statistical categories, according to the NCAA’s latest season statistics released April 6. Grugan lists second in points per game (5.50) and fourth in assists per game (2.83) through 12 games in 2009. All-Time Reimer In just three-plus seasons with the Cabrini men’s lacrosse team, senior attackman Scott Reimer has left his mark on the prgram’s career and single-season records lists. Currently, Reimer lists as the program’s all-time leader in goals (199), shots attempted (326) and man-up goals (23). He ranks second all-time in points with 222. Reimer is the team’s single-season record holder in goals, scoring a career-best 68 in 2008. He is second in points and points per game, tallying 74 and 3.40 last season as a junior. The First to 200 With two goals in a 15-11 win against Widener University April 11, junior attackman Scott Reimer is one goal shy of becoming the first Cabrini men’s lacrosse player all-time to reach the 200-goal plateau in a career. Reimer is the Cavaliers’ all-time leader in career goals, scoring 199 in 65 career games played. He leads the Cabrini offense in 2009, burying 35 goals. Cabrini Athletics Hall of Fame member Tom Lemieux owns the current standard, tallying 233 points on 102 goals and 131 assists from 1999-2002.

Grugan ranks third all-time in program history with 207 points on 121 goals and 86 assists. Through 12 games in 2009, Grugan leads the Cavaliers with 66 points on 32 goals and 34 assists. Grugan’s streak ranks second among active Division III players nationally. Salisbury senior midfielder Kylor Berkman has totaled at least one point in 64 consecutive games, dating back to May 13, 2006. Cabrini claimed its eighth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference championship and punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season. Four members of the Cavaliers earned USILA All-America recognition, including attackman Casey Grugan’s third-team selection. Grugan listed second on the team with 70 points on 45 goals and a team-high 25 assists. Attackman Scott Reimer, midfielder Matt McKinney and defenseman Jeff Moore claimed honorable mention accolades. Reimer powered the Cabrini offense with a team-high 74 points on 68 goals and six assists. McKinney listed third on the team in points, recording 44 points on 36 goals and eight assists. Moore anchored the Cavaliers’ defense, tallying 58 groundballs and 33 cause turnovers. Grugan was named the CSAC Player of the Year, while six other Cavaliers received first-team honors. Midfielder Paul Skulski and midfielder Rich Romanelli earned honorable mention accolades.

NCAA Tournament Routine Dating back to the 2002 season, the second under head coach Steve Colfer, the Cabrini men’s lacrosse team has advanced to seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments. 9th Season University of Scranton ‘93 In eight seasons at the helm of the Cabrini men’s lacrosse program, head coach Steve Colfer has mentored the Cavaliers to eight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) titles and seven straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. He owns a commanding 117-32 career record, including a flawless 65-0 mark against conference opponents. Cabrini has ranked in the Top 20 nationally in four of the last five seasons. In 2008, Colfer coached the Cavaliers to a program-best 17 wins. Under his tutelage, four student-athletes – third-team honoree Casey Grugan and honorable mention selections Matt McKinney, Jeff Moore and Scott Reimer – claimed USILA All-America distinction. Additionally, nine Cavaliers earned all-conference accolades including Grugan’s player of the year nod and Coleman Till’s rookie of the year honor. The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 6 nationally, the program’s highest listing all-time. On April 9, 2008, Colfer added yet another bullet point to a laundry list of coaching accomplishments. Cabrini’s resounding 17-4 win against conference foe Centenary College marked his 100th career win with the Blue and Gray. Colfer (.788) ranks second behind Salisbury’s Jim Berkman (.920) in career winning percentage among head coaches in the Division III ranks with at least five years of service. Listed among his 100th career win, Colfer is a four-time PAC Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007. He served as co-head coach of the Division III team for the 65th annual North-South All-Star in 2006, hosted by Villanova. Also, Colfer helped guide the Bermuda National Team in Ontario at the 2006 World Games, the team’s debut on the international stage. With Colfer leading the charges, the Cavaliers have become a welcomed fixture in the NCAA Tournament, capturing its first win all-time in 2003. Cabrini bested local-rival Widener, 13-8. The Cavaliers have hosted two NCAA Tournament contests at Edith Robb Dixon Field, welcoming Ithaca in 2007 and local-rival Haverford College in 2008. Before his appointment as head coach, Colfer served four years as assistant with the Cavaliers, serving as the team’s offensive coordinator from 1997-2000. He began his coaching career on the sidelines at Salesianum School in Wilmington, Del., helping lead his alma mater to a state title game appearance in 2004 and the ultimate goal one year following. Colfer graduated from Salesianum in 1989, performing as an all-state midfielder as a senior and playing a key role in the team’s run to the state title game against Tatnall. He earned three varsity letters at the University of Scranton, playing the longstick midfield position. Colfer graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Scranton in 1993. He earned a master of science degree in education from West Chester University in 1999. Colfer, a native of West Chester, Pa., currently resides in Conshohocken, Pa.
