The Lord deepens the faith of His church through persecution, trials, and tribulations. We’ve become quite comfortable and exercise great freedom as residents of a so-called Christian nation. I do not seek persecution for anyone. I like religious freedom. However, I also want our faith to deepen. Perhaps the alternative to depth through persecution is a maturity grown through a more clear perception. That is, our perception that retributive justice is a reasonable norm, must change. A clearer perception pursues restorative justice. This is what Jesus called our attention and faith to, on the cross.

There is always plenty going on. For many of us our “opportunities” outlast the hours in the day. So, we prioritize and move ahead. Our church body experiences the same tension. There is plenty to do. In all we do, let’s keep sight of a crucified and risen savior. Let’s keep sight of mercy, justice, humility, and peace. Self-giving love, enemy-love, and forgiveness are ever before us; on the lips of Jesus and Stephen alike. These priorities make us salt and light and worthy of the name Christian. Approach each “opportunity” in light of resurrection and the name of Jesus. With resurrection joy,

Ted Duncan

Dear Church Family, I want to thank each of you who have so faithfully supported the Firm Believers Fitness Classes here at First Baptist. After serving as your Instructor for the past 9 years, I find it necessary to hang up my teaching shoes due to other obligations. No words can describe the joy this Ministry has brought to me personally. You have blessed me with your support, hard work and perseverance. God bless you and do one more set of eight! Ethel
