Exposure • EXPOSURE is controlled by three things: • APERTURE, ISO & SHUTTER SPEED. • Each setting controls exposure differently: • Aperture: controls the area over which light can enter your camera. • Shutter speed: controls the duration of the exposure. • ISO speed: controls the sensitivity of your camera's sensor to a given amount of light. http://photography.tutsplus.com/tutorials/the-ultimatebeginners-introduction-to-exposure--photo-3028
Grab your camera • Set to Manual mode • Set ISO to 100 • Set Shutter Speed to 125 • Set Aperture to f5.6
Aperture
Shutter Speed
Glass of Water • The size of the hose is the Aperture • The time you leave the water running is the shutter speed • Filling the glass with sand (higher ISO) reduces the amount of water needed to fill the glass • How much water it takes to fill the glass is the Exposure
What does changing the Aperture do? • Lets more or less light in • Changes Depth of field
What does changing the Shutter speed do? • Stop Action • Show Movement
What does Changing the ISO do? • ISO is the sensitivity to light of the sensor or film. The higher the sensitivity, the less time (shutter speed) or the less amount of light (aperture) needs to hit the sensor for the correct exposure.
