CHEER & SONG CONTRACT My student, ______________________________, has my permission and support to be a spirit leader for Canyon High School. Myself and my students understand the following:  We must abide by the rules and regulations set by the athletic director, coaches and administration of Canyon.  The spirit leader must be present for all practices and games (unless excused by the coach/advisor).  A violation of any of the rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad.  My student is not guaranteed a spirit leading position.  All forms attached must be turned in at check-in of the first day of tryouts or my child will NOT be allowed to participate.  My student must attend all tryout sessions (unless excused by the advisor/coaches) or they will not be considered for a spirit leading position.  My student will be evaluated by qualified judges and we agree to abide by the decision of the judges; furthermore, the scores will remain confidential and will not be made available to my student or to me as a parent.  All potential costs involved in the program and will notify the athletic director or coach IMMEDIATELY if finances are a problem or concern.  The very nature of the activity, dancing, cheerleading and gymnastics carry a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surfaces is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury ranges from minor to catastrophic. I understand these risks and will not hold Canyon High School or any of its personnel responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time. ____________________________ Parent or Guardian – PRINT name

SPIRIT SQUAD PHILOSOPHY & CODE The primary purpose of the Canyon Spirit Leading organization is to generate spirit, pride and leadership skills through support, performance, and personal conduct. The term “spirit leader” refers to all cheer leaders and song leaders. The conduct of the spirit leaders is closely observed by many. It is important that their behavior be above reproach in order that they might bring credit and honor to themselves and their school. The following rules have been established to insure a high standard of behavior for all cheer leaders and song leaders. 1. I will abide by all of the rules outlined in the Spirit Squad Philosophy and Code. 2. I will not possess or use tobacco, alcoholic beverages, narcotics or dangerous drugs at any time. 3. I will follow all rules and regulations established by all captains, teachers, coaches and administrators, and will be respectful of each. 4. I understand that I am expected to be at all cheer/song practices and performances and I will be on time. 5. I will ride to and from away games and performances on an assigned bus or in advisor-approved transportation. 6. Uniforms shall be kept neat and clean at all times. All members of a squad will wear the same uniform at the same time. 7. I understand that I will be registered in the cheer/song class and will meet all obligations asked of me during this time by the coach or advisor. 8. There will be no gum chewing at any time, either at practices or performances. 9. I will not wear jewelry and I will keep my nails trimmed for all practices and performances. I will not wear colored nail polish for any performances. 10. I will wear my hair in a uniformed manner as required by all squad members, and I will maintain a “natural” hair color. 11. There will be no unnecessary talking with other cheer leaders/song leaders or spectators during games, and I will stand at attention during the playing of the National Anthem and during the opposing teams alma mater. 12. I will be responsible for making, putting up, and taking down all signs that are assigned to me. 13. I will attend summer practice and understand that if I do not attend, I may be dismissed from the program. 14. I will participate in fundraising activities and I understand the financial commitment of being a Canyon cheer leader or song leader. 15. I understand that while in cheer/song, I am not permitted to participate in any activity that will interfere with my cheer/song responsibilities. 16. I understand that I will be expected to carry out my duties until the end of the year for which I serve. I will attend required games for sports, girl’s and boy’s, whenever asked during the regular season and CIF play. 17. I understand I may not use my cell phone during practice or performances. 18. I understand, above all else, that at all times I am representing Canyon High School and the Spirit Program. 19. I will support, promote and be kind to all my fellow spirit leaders on both the cheer & song spirit squads. I understand that violating any of the above rules could result in my suspension or removal from the cheer/song program and will adversely affect my grade in class. ___________________________________ Student Signature
