CAPTURING THE IMAGE Statue of Liberty Frederic Augste Bartholdi and Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel Liberty Island, New York City, New York 1886

Licensing Information Attribution CC BY

The Statue of Liberty is a sign of freedom and democracy for the United States. Tourists from the U.S. and all over the world come to see the statue. Most tourists take the ferry to Liberty Island to see the statue up close and go to the top to get a view of New York City. The statue can be seen from a distance as well though, so another common image of this tourist attraction is of the entire statue on the island.

CAPTURING THE IMAGE Michigan Central Station Reed&Stem and Warren&Wetmore Detroit, MI 1912-1913

Licensing Information Attribution CC BY

Michigan Central Station has recently become a local tourist attraction in Detroit, especially because of the search for disaster tourism. The permanently closed building dominantly sits on the land. People don’t even have to get out of their cars to take photographs of the building because of the one-way street that passes in front of it; they just slow down a little and take a photograph. However, many people do get out of their cars to take photographs all around the building. There are also those who go through the fence and enter the building in order to capture images of the ruin interior.
