Think emergency kits are only for cold weather breakdowns? Think again. You should really have an emergency kit in your car whether it’s the dead of winter or a sweltering summer day. And because we're here to be helpful, we're diving into some key things to include in your summer car emergency kit.
Rain jacket For those rainy day situations, you’ll want to have a spare jacket or maybe even a small tarp in your car to provide cover. An umbrella isn’t a bad idea either.
Roadmap We know you probably always have your phone with you, but it’s helpful to have a roadmap on standby in case your phone loses power or service.

Sunscreen If you’re stranded in the summer, you’ll want some protection from the sun. Keep extra sunscreen in your car and lather it on if you’re waiting outside.
Water and food You don’t want to leave home without some water in the summer. And, it’s also a good idea to have a few non-perishable food items. Protein bars are a perfect go-to choice.
Portable phone charger We know it’s rare for your phone to be out of battery, but you won’t have to risk it with a portable phone charger. Make sure it’s charged before any trips.
Jumper cables Jumper cables are a must-have item for any emergency kit, whether it’s for cold or warm weather. Be sure to get the right gauge for your car, and read up on how to safely use them.
Old Blanket Getting stuck in the mud is a real issue in the summertime. Keep an old blanket in your car and place it under a stuck tire if you’re in a sticky situation.
Spare tire This may be obvious, but a spare tire can help you get back on the road after a flat. If you use a spare, be sure to get another to replace it as soon as possible.
Flashlight Always keep a flashlight and extra batteries for those nighttime emergencies. It can also help a tow truck spot you if needed.
Hat In addition to the sunscreen, a hat can help keep you shaded during those hotter months. Maybe it’s a ball cap, or maybe it’s a floppy beach hat. Whatever floats your boat!
