Dear Parent/Carer In March students in Year 8 will be going through an options process in order to choose their Key Stage Four subjects which start in Year 9. In order to help ensure that parents/carers and students are in a position to be as fully informed as possible prior to this process a timeline is outlined below so that you know what information, advice and guidance the school will provide prior to the main options process. 1. Parents’ evening and modular report information – Wednesday 30 November 2016. This was a critical evening where subject staff were able to provide detailed feedback to parents/carers and students about their child’s current performance and suitability for further study in each subject. Module reports for each subject were issued. 2. Options assemblies and booklet Between Monday 27 February 2017 and Friday 3 March 2017 Year 8 students will receive a special week of assemblies designed to inform them about, and engage them in, the options process. As well as finding out more about the process individual subjects will talk to them to provide them with more details about what the subject is like at Key Stage 4. Students will also receive an options booklet. 3. Full Reports – Issued by post on Monday 6 March 2017 Our full reports provide a detailed summary of current and predicted end of year performance across all subject areas. The report will contain feedback on how students have done in their ongoing assessments (all subjects) and in their formal examination-style assessments (English and mathematics only). The formal examination-style assessments in English and mathematics will take place in the week commencing Monday 16 January. These assessments take place in lesson time. Good preparation for these assessments will provide students with an accurate picture of their strengths and areas for development and help to inform their subject choices. Making the correct choices is critical in helping students to succeed in year 11. Students should have access to their exercise books/folders for revision purposes. In addition, teaching staff in mathematics and English will have provided them with guidance on key areas for revision. The examination timetable will be issued direct to students. A copy of the timetable and all the revision guidance is also available on the school’s examination micro-site: http://www.whickhamschool.org/parents/exam-information/ (accessible from the Parents/Exam Information menu on the main website). 4. Options information evening – Tuesday 14 March 2017 Students and parents are invited to the options information evening where parents will be provided with more details about the Key Stage 4 options process and have the chance to discuss suitable subjects with teaching staff. I will write to provide more details nearer the time. We hope that students have a good break after a long and productive term but we also want to ensure that they are prepared for the assessments that lie ahead in January that will help them as they begin the important process of selecting subjects for study at Key Stage 4.
