VALUE Visits thE Fort MorgAn City CoUnCiL
Summer
On June 16, 2015, representatives from VALUE, Voice of Adult Learners United to Educate, visited the Fort Morgan City Council meeting. Younes El Ouaryarhli and Oralea Tellez presented to the council their project, The Long Journey. They explained that they represented adults who had compiled a book of stories from recent immigrants to the Fort Morgan area. The purpose of the book was to promote understanding in the community between all cultures. They explained that each book will cost approximately $3.00 to print, and they would like to print 200 copies. VALUE wants to give copies of the book to the governor, senators, important political people, libraries, and schools. They asked the city council if they would be willing to donate $600 to the project in exchange for advertising. Some members of the council then congratulated Younes and Oralea on the book, and commented on their good English skills.

Not only did they spend time working at the facility, they were very acctive in the many community events that Cargill participated in – Relay for Life, BobStoock, building floats, Softball, even making radio ads! They finished off their summer with a trip to Dodge City, KS, where thhey visited Cargill’s beef processing plant, and Wichita, KS, where they presentedd their summer projects to the Beef Leadership Team and participated in a volunteer activity with Interns from other Cargill facilities. It was a busy summer and we hope that they found their time here ass rewarding and enjoyable as the Cargill team did in having them here at our facility.
After the presentation to the city council, George O’Clair treated Younes and Oralea, as well as Shelli Crandall and Rachel Nichols, to refreshments at Café Lotus. Both adult learners felt good about appearing before the Fort Morgan City Council. Good luck to each of them as they head back to finish Younes even commented that he had always wanted to their college careers! get in to public speaking, so this was a start. Congratulations to the VALUE representatives on a job well done in their presentation!

Those are the types of Christmas Wishes that we would like to make come true.
