ROUND 2A SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Tadhg O'Brien Chris O'Leary

Jack Walsh Billy Crowley

Eoin O'Reilly Fiachra Lynch

Valley Rovers 2-15 V’s Ballincollig 1-10 Valley Rovers took on Ballincollig in round 2A of the senior football championship in Cloughduv on Saturday evening. In Monday’s Irish Examiner journalist Eoghan Cormican described the game as a “Free Flowing Exhibition”. In the game itself Ballincollig made the better start with a goal in the second minute from Paddy Kelly. Valleys responded with points from Jack Walsh, Billy Crowley and Fiachra Lynch. Coming into the second quarter Valleys upped their game and two quick points from Eoin O'Reilly gave Valleys the lead. Valleys stretched their lead to four when Johnny Kiely intercepted a Ballincollig short kick out to set Billy Crowley up for a Valleys goal. Two late points from Eoin O'Reilly and Darragh Murphy left the half time score Valley Rovers 1-07 Ballincollig 1-04. In truth Valleys should been further ahead. Into the second half it was Ballincollig who again had the better start and in the third quarter outscored Valleys four points to two to leave only a point between the sides. Into in the last 15 minutes Valleys took over with our defense in command particularly Tomas O’Brien, Tim Cummins and Johnny Kiely we outscored Ballincollig 1-06 to 0-02 with the goal coming from substitute Eoghan Delaney. It left the full time score Valley Rovers 2-15 Ballincollig 1-10. Huge credit should go to the Valley Rovers team for this performance, with all players playing well and players only being withdrawn when they were tried and had given there all. Depending on the draw for the next round Valleys are at least in the 4th round or maybe could get a bye to the quarter finals. The victory also gives Valleys two league points in the Kelleher Shield. Team Cormac Desmond Tomas O'Brien Tim Cummins Noel O'Donovan Jack Lyons David Lynch(Capt) Johnny Kiely Darragh Murphy Kevin Canty

Subs Used: Ian Crowley, Eoghan Delaney, Darragh Lordan and Donal O'Brien. Unused Subs: David Lynch (Gk) John Cottrell, Gary Farrell, Joe Lynch, Adam Settini, Pa Hurley, Jack Murphy, Darragh Crowley, Rory O'Sullivan, Michael O'Brien, Aaron Lyons

CAMOGIE

UNDER 14’s

So much to celebrate as they spread their wings in this great game of ours. Well done girls we are so proud of you all, as we are of all players in all sections.

Camogie is flying in Valley Rovers and in our U14s squad we have a few successes to be proud and shouting about. We would like to acknowledge four girls Laoise Collins, Orla O Sullivan, Molly Lynch, and Kate Lynch for being part of the Cork Development squad who won the James Hurley blitz cup in Mallow on Monday. We are also proud of the fact that Laoise Collins was given the job to captain the team. On a different stage we had another Valleys player Clare Flynn who captained the Kinsale Community school, as they won their County Collages final recently.

A huge well done to Grace O'Dwyer and Cora Higgins who had the honour to be part of the Carrigdhoun team who took part in the inter-divisional blitz on Monday in Inniscarra. Both girls doing our club proud as Carrigdhoun won 3 of their 4 games. Well done from everyone at Valley Rovers Camogie Club. Keep up the good work!
