FEATURED ARTICLE:

Casa De Peregrinos This November, Calvary is partnering with Casa de Peregrinos, an emergency food pantry that provides groceries to families in need across Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. Each year Casa de Peregrinos gathers resources and prepares Thanksgiving “boxes”. These boxes contain 40-50 pounds of food, including a turkey and side dishes. In 2016, 1,300 hungry families received Thanksgiving boxes. The 2017 goal is to distribute boxes to 1,500 families, and that’s where we come in. Those in need can receive about four carts worth of food from Casa De Peregrinos monthly.

This year, in place of the usual Church Thanksgiving Dinner, Calvary will mobilize a work force to help on Nov.17 (Friday), Nov. 18 (Saturday) and Nov. 20 (Monday). 30–50 volunteers are needed for each day. Volunteers will pack boxes, distribute meals, and provide water and snacks to people awaiting food.

Casa De Peregrinos’ goal is to alleviate hunger in Las Cruces with nutritious foods. They also provide several mobile food pantries to reach remote areas in our community. Throughout the year Casa de Peregrinos hosts numerous events to collect food and support the needy in our community. Sara Armijo, a member of Calvary, works

as the Development Volunteer Coordinator at Casa De Peregrinos. Sara, alongside the Director and Board, plans fundraisers and community events such as Stamp Out Hunger, a food collection event partnership with the Volunteers Building Can Structures at the ‘Canstruction’ event US Postal Service, and Canstruction, where teams raise money to buy various canned foods and compete in building massive can structures that are later donated. To volunteer for the Casa De Peregrinos Thanksgiving event located at 999 W. Amador St., please sign-up at the North Welcome Center Sunday mornings or contact Gary Henderson through the Church Office at 522.7900. If you need food from Casa de Peregrinos: Please bring I.D. and proof of address on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 9-11am or 1-3pm to the above address. You can come once a month for food. To donate food to Casa de Peregrinos: Please bring food on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 8:30am - 5pm to the above address. To Volunteer at Casa de Peregrinos: You can call ahead or just show up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30am - 5pm to the above address. Please wear closed-toe shoes and be ready to work. You will be shown on-site what needs to be done. Thank You! Casa de Peregrinos is located at 999 S. Amador, Suite F.
