However, you will know how easy the quilt is to construct. It is just the right size to snuggle under on a cold winter’s night or to hang in a place of honor during the holidays. The red and green caterpillar comes from the beloved children’s book written in 1969.

Note: Read assembly directions before cutting patches. All measurements are cut sizes and include 4" seam allowances. Borders are cut the exact lengths required plus 4" seam allowances. Caterpillar & Santa Quilt Making the Quilt
1. Refer to the quilt photograph when you fussy-cut the prints. To join crosswise Fabric B top/bottom border strips to make them long enough, sew 2 strips together so the print is continuous. 2. Referring to the Border Block diagram, sew a Fabric G and Fabric H triangle together. Press seam allowance toward Fabric G. Sew a Fabric F triangle to the edge. Press seam allowance open. Make 36 Border Blocks. Set aside. 3. Referring to the Quilt Diagram, join 12 Border Blocks side by side to make a pieced side border, turning the blocks as shown. Sew to the side of the quilt. Repeat for the other side. Sew 6 Border Blocks side by side to make the top border. Sew fabric H squares to the ends. Sew to the top. Repeat for the bottom.

4. Sew Fabric H 32" borders to the quilt’s sides. Sew Fabric C borders to the top and bottom, keeping the words upright. 5. Sew Fabric H 1w" borders to the sides, and then to the top and bottom. 6. Sew borders to the quilt in this order, sides on first: Fabric G 61" borders, then 48" borders; Fabric G 72" borders, then 50" borders; Fabric D 74" borders, then 562" borders.
Finishing the Quilt
7. Layer the quilt with batting and backing and baste. Quilt as desired. Bind to finish the quilt.
