The 2017 CYO Cheerleading Committee, Advisory Board and Executive Panel, and Catholic Charities staff has the authority to implement rules and enforce regulatory decisions for the league’s common welfare. Any violation of rules may forfeit team participation in Competition.

2.

The Parish Pastor and Moderator have full authority over their team and have the right to enact additional rules which they deem necessary to achieve a successful program in their parish. Pastors and/or Organization executives will receive a copy (email and hard copy) of the CYO Rules prior to the start of the season. Pastors and/or Organization executives will be informed (email and hard copy) of any issues or grievances as they pertain to their participating Parish and/or Organization and its effect on the League as a whole.

3.

Letters of Intent to enter a cheer team must be submitted by Moderator to CYO by Nov. 15, 2017. League entry fees ($10.00 per cheerleader including Pee Wees), Rosters, Cheerleader Registration forms, Sportsmanship Policy, and Coach/Volunteer Registration forms must be submitted to CYO Office by Nov. 22, 2017.

4.

All CYO Coaches (this includes Head Coach as well as any/all Assistant Coaches) and Volunteers must have a completed Coach/Volunteer Registration Form submitted to the CYO Office before first game and must be certified in the mandatory Diocesan Virtus Training. See www.leaguelineup.com/bccyo for procedure to register for the training.

5.

Injuries should be reported as follows as soon as possible: Cheerleader/Parent  Coach  Moderator/Parish Office 

Falsification of any information provided on the Cheerleader Registration Form may result in dismissal from the program.

Rule 2: Cheerleader Eligibility 1.

A cheerleader must cheer for the parish in which their parents are registered as of September 1, 2017.

2.

A cheerleader cannot participate on both a modified or high school cheerleading team and a CYO cheerleading team during basketball season.

3.

A cheerleader who belongs to a parish which sponsors a team may only be added to the roster of their home parish before Dec. 6, 2017.

4.

Cheerleaders must be attending school regularly to participate in CYO.

Rule 3: Rosters

1.

Parishioners must not be cut to ensure a place for a non-parishioner. NOTE: Cheer teams can have as many cheerleaders as they wish, however, only 16 can be on the Competition Team. Teams are required to send in a roster of the 16 cheerleaders for competition along with their competition registration.

2.

A cheerleader’s name will be added to the roster once an approved registration form has been filed with the CYO Office. No cheerleader may participate in a game until their name appears on an official roster. Additions to a roster must be submitted to the CYO office by Dec. 6, 2017.

3.

Non-parishioners are bound to the Parish team they first cheered for (beginning at the Grammar level) if a team is entered. If a team is not entered, the cheerleader can choose another team and will be bound to that team for subsequent years, etc.

4.

No cheerleader may cheer for more than one team. Any cheerleader who is moved up, at any level, after Dec. 20, 2017, may not return to a lower level for the remainder of the year. th

NOTE: 5 grade can move up to Grammar at the discretion of the Moderator and Coach, and with League approval. Rule 4: Team Responsibilities – Refer to CYO SPECIFIC SAFETY GUIDELINES for additional clarification.

1.

At least two (2) Cheerleading coaches or responsible adult must be with their teams at all times. The coach and/or responsible adult must have completed the required Virtus training through the Diocese of Syracuse. Note: High School Students are not considered coaches or responsible adults, however, if they are assisting the Head Coach, they must also have Virtus training with parental consent – please contact your Parish for clarification.

2.

Cheer length at games: Short timeout: 30 seconds. Full timeout: 60 seconds.

3.

Game Protocol – Home team does Welcome Cheer; visitors cheer 1 time out then rotate time outs.

4.

Cheerleaders, in uniform, must sit at their bench area during all games.

5.

No banging of bleachers with hands or feet is allowed.

6.

For safety, no cheerleader may stand to cheer on the sidelines, and/or perform a stunt or gymnastics while the game is in progress to prevent injury.

7.

No cheering when an opponent is on the foul line.

8.

Safety guidelines must be followed at all times.

9.

It is the expectation of CYO that teams cheer at all home/away games.

10. CYO recommends that PeeWee teams cheer at up to Grammar Basketball Level games. CYO recommends that Grammar teams cheer at up to JV Basketball Level games. Page 2 of 3

11. Cheer coaches are encouraged to keep informed, via contact with basketball coaches, of game dates/times/venues that are changed by the basketball coaches. 12.

In order to be eligible for participation in the end of year Cheerleading Competition, teams will be required to cheer at an All Star game and/or Championship game (regardless if your team is in championship game or not). Please make your plans early so that you are eligible to cheer at completion. Schedules/games will be determined later in the season and all will be notified.

Rule 5: PeeWee Responsibilities 1. Please refer to CYO SPECIFIC SAFETY GUIDELINES for PeeWees. Stunts will not be performed at games. If you have a question about any stunts involving PeeWee’s, please contact [email protected] or 584-7800 x431 for clarification 2. PeeWee teams are allowed to practice up to two (2) day per week and not longer than 1-1/2 hours per practice. Pee Wee teams are allowed to cheer at one (1) game per week. 3. PeeWee’s can add one (1) day and one (1) 1/2 hour of practice time per week beginning st January 1 to prepare for exhibition at competition. Therefore, you can practice up to 3 days per week for a total of 5 hours per week. Example: Practice 2 days @ 1½ hours each plus 1 day @ 2 hours.
