Cell Phone Policy Dear Parents and/or Guardians, As of March 2015, Mayor De Blasio has established a revised cell phone policy for NYC Public Schools. The Mayor has directed each Principal to modify their individual school cell phone policy. Please read the updated PS/IS 295Q Cell Phone Policy as of March 2015. Students will be permitted to have cell phones on their person in a secured manner, in a closed pocket or bag. Students must keep their cell phone off for the duration of all school activities, including before or after school programs and events. Students are not permitted to use their cell phone in any way while on school grounds. Continuing with our current policy, students are permitted to use the school phones located in the Main Office to contact parents. School staff is not responsible for retrieving a cell phone should the cell phone become lost or misplaced. In the event a school staff person sees a student using their phone in any manner, the phone will be confiscated. The phone will be placed in the Main Office, where a parent will be contacted. It will then be the parent or guardians responsibility to obtain the phone from the school. The phone will not be returned to the student. PS/IS 295’s philosophy can be summarized in the following way: “If we don’t see it (the cell phone), and we (school staff) don’t hear it, you (the students) don’t lose it.” If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Rooney at (718) 464-1433.
